At 16 years old, Lindsay Hayes is a singer and musician who has already released three songs and performs regularly at live shows, events, concerts, and restaurants. She also enjoys playing at the farmers’ market on Saturday mornings. “I love getting to see the community around me,” she shares. “They get to enjoy the music, and I get to enjoy seeing them listen to it. I like watching in real time as people relax in the slow-paced market.”
Her passion for music and desire to share it with others started when she was young. “I loved to read when I was little and I wanted to write something for others to enjoy one day,” Lindsay says. “Around first grade, I had a whole journal filled with stories and poems. I started guitar in fifth grade and discovered that writing music allowed me to combine my passion for storytelling with music.” Additionally, Lindsay’s involvement in choir and classical musical training gave her a solid foundation for her music.
Lindsay records with producer Joe Stevenson, so when he was putting together a Christmas EP, she was one of the people from the CSRA that he asked to participate. “He asked me one day if I would sing a song he wrote,” Lindsay recalls, “so we recorded it and the music video. It's called ‘Wild Christmas Tree’ and is part of a fundraiser the Salvation Army of Augusta did for Christmas.”
“Wild Christmas Tree” was Lindsay’s second song. Her first, “Never Want to Leave,” and her most recent, “Bad Directions,” were songs born from her own experiences that she hopes others will connect with in their own way. “Songwriting is about making songs with which people can relate,” Lindsay explains. “It’s also important to do it in a way that stays true to what happened and how I felt—mixing my experience with universal connection.”
With her March release, “Bad Directions,” Lindsay got to enjoy trying out a different style than what she normally writes. “It felt very adventurous and I truly loved the recording process,” Lindsay says. “My other song, ‘Never Wanna Leave,’ felt very universal—a happy pop song. With ‘Bad Directions,’ I got to branch out a little bit more into something that sounds different.”
In addition to her music, Lindsay stays active in church, school, tennis, volleyball, and spending time with friends and family. Looking towards the future, she hopes that whatever college and career path she ends up on, she will always be able to make time for her music.
Lindsay’s songs are on all streaming platforms under her name, Lindsay Hayes. For updates on her music and where she’s singing live in the area, follow Lindsay Hayes Music on social media.
