The David and Mikel Blair Foundation, is pleased to announce their initiative to provide local families with Creative Learning and Activity Kits for Kids. “With schools closed for the foreseeable future, thousands of Montgomery County families are caring for small children at home under shelter-in-place orders. Our creativity kits provide families with fun activities, interactive games and creative, independent learning opportunities as well as important information on safety and public services during this crisis. Our hope is to create a bit of happiness for children and provide parents a chance to exhale and take care of themselves. As parents of six children we know firsthand that taking care of children all day is exhausting. We all need a break,” said David Blair.
Art and creative learning have a positive impact on mental health. Adding creativity to learning can help alleviate some of the stress our kids are feeling. “Everyone has something to contribute. Whether it's time, resources or kindness, we’re happy to play a small part in unifying communities where we live,” added Mikel Blair. If you or your organization are able to contribute and/or donate children’s’ toys, books, or arts & craft supplies, please contact us (see below) to schedule pick-up. The David and Mikel Blair Foundation has made a contribution to supply materials for the kits and the Council for Advocacy and Policy Solutions (“CAPS”) will prepare and deliver the kits to local communities.
About The David and Mikel Blair Foundation is dedicated to purposeful giving and is rooted in improving the quality of life for individuals and families. From literacy and equity in education, to at-risk youth programs and mental health access, the foundation believes and sees value in every individual, and their contribution to our community when they are given the opportunity.
Council for Advocacy and Policy Solutions, a nonprofit public policy institute, works to educate the Montgomery County community on legislation with local impacts. CAPS offers the community a centralized hub to find resources- - including policy review, policy recommendations, and community opinions on local legislation-- in the areas of education, infrastructure, economic development, and health. Additionally, through the CAPS Foundation, a sister 501(c)(3) organization, CAPS designs and implements pilot programs that solve community needs through various nonprofit and community partnerships.
