Cruisin’ Through Time

The Fleming Family’s Legacy on Wheels

Along a once-sleepy stretch of Highway 109 in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, the sound of revving engines wasn’t just background noise—it was the heartbeat of a community. At the center of it all were Sam and Shane Fleming, the father-son team behind Fleming’s Tire Sales, a beloved local business that served neighbors, friends, and even the occasional celebrity for over two decades.

Established in 1988, Fleming’s Tire Sales quickly became more than just a tire shop. Sam and Shane offered reliable service with a personal touch—whether it was rotating tires, handling alignments, or diagnosing a squeaky brake. Their loyal customers came to rely on them not just for repairs, but for honest advice, familiar faces, and a strong sense of community. One local resident fondly recalls how the Flemings could swap out a full set of tires, balance them, and have a customer back on the road in 30 minutes or less. The two worked with such fluidity, it was as if they were reading each other’s minds.

The shop’s closure in 2006, brought on by the widening of Highway 109, marked the end of an era—but not the end of the Flemings’ story. With their business behind them, Sam and Shane poured their shared energy into their first automotive love: restoring classic American muscle cars. Their passion—rooted in a lifelong appreciation for Camaros, Bel Airs, Corvettes, and Vegas—found new life in restoration projects that filled their weekends and free time.

At the heart of their garage today is Shane’s meticulously restored 1968 Chevy Camaro, a silver beauty built from the ground up. Every detail was sourced with care—original parts gathered from swap meets, car shows, and private collectors. Though technically a modified build due to its custom wheels and modern touches, Shane’s Camaro remains as true to the original design as possible. The result? Over 25 trophies, including “Best of Show,” “Tennessee’s Favorite,” “Mayor’s Choice,” “Pro’s Choice Car,” and “Pro’s Choice Interior.”

Shane’s journey with Camaros spans years and colors—from bold reds to classic blacks and cheerful yellows. Whether convertible or hardtop, each car was a learning experience that helped him perfect the art of building a show-winning vehicle. His silver Camaro now stands as the crowning jewel in a long line of labor-intensive projects that reflect both his dedication and eye for detail.

Sam, meanwhile, still owns the cherished 1955 Chevy Bel Air convertible that brought baby Shane home from the hospital. It remains one of the most sentimental symbols of their shared love for cars and the history behind them. That same Bel Air—polished and pristine—still turns heads at shows and serves as a reminder of how deep the roots of their passion run.

In 2010, Shane took his commitment a step further by building a garage at his home in Mount Juliet. It’s now the headquarters for his restoration work, a space where he spends endless hours preparing for the next car show and hunting for parts. Together, Sam and Shane have earned a reputation on the local and regional car show circuit, winning accolades and admiration wherever they go.
