Derek and Zach Brown are the proud owners of Crystal Remodeling, a company started by Derek’s father, Eugene, in the 1980s. As the company grows, one thing remains the same– their dedication to their customers.
After Derek’s father retired, a little over 25 years ago, Derek took over the company, starting small with room additions and simple remodels. Zach, Derek’s son, joined the team eight years ago adding a new perspective to the team by expanding their remodeling to kitchens and bathrooms.
As trends constantly change over the years, so do the options that Crystal Remodeling offers. The father and son team want their customers to take pride in the work that they have done, from their European style cabinets to their white quartz countertops, with their styles and ideas ever changing.
The Brown’s remodel kitchens, bathrooms, help with room additions, and other parts of houses if needed. Their counter tops, cabinets, shelves and various tiles and flooring offer customers a sense of autonomy by helping them fall in love with an important room in their home.
When walking into the Crystal Remodeling building, located just off of Interstate 5 South, you are faced with beautiful displays of cabinets, countertops, kitchen mock-ups, tile to choose from, diverse color options and a small business feel that will take care of all your needs.
Although their main focus and expertise lies within the kitchen and bathroom, no project is too big nor too small for the father-son duo to handle. Customers constantly remain at the forefront of their mind when they are taking on a project, carefully considering any detail that may impact the work. Eugene and Derek’s small team of two has now grown to a full panel of qualified individuals. “Crystal Remodeling is big enough to handle any project but small enough to still deal with the owners and remain face to face with customers,” said Derek.
Zach and Derek understand the importance of speaking with customers throughout a job and sticking with them until the very end. Nowadays, when dealing with large companies, customers may run into lack of communication from owners and contractors. With Crystal Remodeling, this is seldom the case. “Customers like to be able to see the people that sell them the job, throughout the job,” said Derek. People pay for quality, not just in the physical service that is being provided, but through communicative transparency.
Creating and sustaining a successful business comes down to one main factor: work ethic. The Brown’s pride themselves in creating a strong rapport with their customers, oftentimes creating lifelong friends in the process. Respect for every walk of life that enters their building door is always at the forefront of their minds. Thoroughly explaining the “why” of a project and turns that it might take is a part of their process, helping customers understand the project at its core rather than at face value.
Some may wonder how the inner workings of a family business may transpire, either inefficiently or in harmony. For Crystal Remodeling it is the latter. Having already been a family business, Zach integrated into the process with ease. Derek and Zach often have their own projects with little to no overlap. When collaboration is needed, they work smoothly together, helping one another with their different skill sets and ideas. “We all have the same goal of being members of the community,” said Derek, which makes it easy for the father-son duo to work together.
Derek and Zach have stayed in the greater Portland area for years, falling in love with every community they live in. Each town or city that they work with brings them unique projects, from older homes in Southwest Portland to newer homes in Wilsonville. They give their all into every contracting gig they are faced with, building up homes and customers in the process.
