For more than 15 years, Bee Cave Arts Foundation has helped bring art into everyday life across the Bee Cave community.
Established in 2009, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit connects people of all ages with art through exhibitions, classes, youth programs, community projects and public art. Its work can be seen throughout Bee Cave, from artist-designed benches at Hill Country Galleria and public sculptures around the city, alongside exhibitions featuring local artists and students.
One of the people who has helped shape that work from the beginning is founding member Deby Childress.
An art educator and administrator, Deby has been involved with Bee Cave Arts Foundation since its early years. Her career has included work with museums, schools and arts organizations including Laguna Gloria Art Museum, Elisabet Ney Museum, The University of Texas and the Texas Commission on the Arts. She holds a Master of Art in Art Education and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art from The University of Texas at Austin.
Her work with the Foundation has included the Bee Cave Sculpture Park, the Community Art Center, the Benches of Bee Cave and the Bees of Bee Cave.
The Bee Cave Sculpture Park is one of the Foundation’s most recognizable community projects. Located at 13333 Highway 71 West, the free public park includes dozens of sculptures, nature trails and picnic areas. Among the works on display is “Leap of Faith” by GiGi Miller, one of many pieces visitors can discover while walking through the park.
The Foundation’s work also continues indoors at its Community Art Center at Hill Country Galleria. The space features artwork by local artists and students, a hands-on children’s art area, community service projects and art classes for adults and children. Volunteers, members, artists and community supporters have all played a part in the Foundation’s growth and continued presence in Bee Cave.
That commitment has also received local recognition. In 2023, Deby was named Bee Cave Volunteer of the Year, and Bee Cave Arts Foundation was named Bee Cave Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit of the Year during the same year.
Across the parks, programs, public art and creative spaces she has helped develop, Deby’s years of service remain visible throughout Bee Cave. Her contributions can be seen in the places where neighbors gather, artists share their work and children experience art within their own community.
Neighbors can support the Foundation through membership, volunteering, program participation or donations. More information about upcoming events, membership and giving is available at BeeCaveArts.Foundation.
