Someone reached out to me on Instagram and said… "I have done Optavia and lost 35lbs, but unless I am eating their food, I just gain it all back. I want to trust your plate method, but I just can’t see how this actually works.”
Let's dissect this a little bit…
- “I have done Optavia..." - you have been eating 800-1200 calories, using a diet company's food for the majority of your meals, and forging out $100’s if not $1000s to get progress while simultaneously making yourself less healthy (mentally/physically) from a very restrictive diet.
- “Unless I am eating their food, I just gain it all back” - remember whatever method you are doing for weight loss you will HAVE to do it for the rest of your life. PERIOD.
- “I want to trust your plate method” - you have mistrust in diet culture because of so many failed diets. You have been on diets that you cannot sustain nor make you healthier mentally and physically.
- “I just can’t see how this actually works?”- you likely have never truly learned how nutrition and metabolism actually works because all you have been doing is trusting the latest fad...which always ends up failing you.
This may sound a little harsh, but I want to show you that this is the perfect example of someone caught in the “viscous diet cycle”.
- They go on a restrictive diet and get quick results (even though they are not the right type of results)
- They panic- how am I going to sustain this lifestyle? I feel so good now in my clothes and body, but this is so unrealistic to keep doing.
- They start to gain back the weight they lost and now their mental state is extremely poor.
- They frantically go back to what they were doing prior or find the new diet fad to get off that quick weight gain.
- They struggle 100x more with the next diet because the previous one wrecked their metabolism!
- They live on restrictive diets for the rest of their life.
I have seen this time and time again. I actually have been there too. It's miserable, it's debilitating, and it ruins your life.
