Pool season is here, and everyone loves a reputable local business, especially one built by family.
Danny Steele worked in the pool industry for several years before taking his knowledge and branching out on his own – founding D&S Pools – in 1992.
“Internet and cell phones were not popular in the 90s so Danny went door to door and asked homeowners if they were interested in having a pool built,” his daughter-in-law, Tiffany Steele, shared. “Danny had great success with this; he has built hundreds of pools over his 32 years in business.”

The name of the family business is special, too.
“When you ask Danny what D&S stands for, he chuckles and says, ‘What do you think it stands for?’ Ultimately, he will tell you it stands for Dad & Son,” she smiled.
His son (and Tiffany Steele’s husband), Chris Steele, grew up around the pool industry. “He still remembers being woken up at the crack of dawn on those summer school breaks because it was time to build another pool,” she laughed.
While dad was still building pools, his son started a career in law enforcement in 2015.
“In 2020, the pandemic caused the swimming pool industry to hit a massive increase with a high demand. Danny was overloaded with work and asked Chris if he wanted to help run a crew on his off days,” Steele continued. “Chris was more than happy to help his dad out when he could. In 2021, swimming pools were such a demand that Chris stepped down from law enforcement to help his dad full-time. That year, Chris decided he wanted to take his lifelong knowledge of pools and provide for his family.”
She continued, “Chris had a dream and expectation of what this business could look like so he took the name D&S Pools and added ‘+ Outdoor Living’ to it. He obtained his pool contracting license and officially took the reins in 2022. Danny still works alongside Chris. With D&S Pools + Outdoor Living, you get two state-licensed pool professionals for the price of one!”
D&S Pools + Outdoor Living specializes in new installation, repairs and remodeling of in-ground pools. Asked about a unique project for D&S Pools + Outdoor Living, Steele shared one of her husband’s custom designs.
“In recent years, tanning ledges have become a leading add-on in the pool industry. These tanning ledges (also known as sundecks) are fully customizable,” she said. “Three years ago, Chris sat down with a client who wanted a tanning ledge but also a section for kids to play while still having the space to swim underwater. Chris designed a tanning ledge that checked every box for that customer and several more (even us, personally!). This custom pool design has become a signature seller at D&S. It starts with your choice of liner, which covers the first 6-inch step that runs across the entryway from one end to the other. That step is followed by a nice sized platform that toddlers can enjoy or you can place a lounge chair on. This design then shifts into a deeper step that follows a nice 4-foot platform that kids really splash into. It slopes into a 6-foot deep end for anyone to enjoy. Finally, this custom design is topped off with the perfect water circulation with precise placement of jets and extra lighting for the full experience.”
