MESSAGES FROM THE HEART

Valentine’s Day is all about love and it’s not only celebrated in the United States but also in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, and Australia.

Although there are many references to how and when Valentine’s Day came to be, some believe that the English poet Geoffrey Chaucer may have invented Valentine’s Day when he wrote the poem “Parliament of Foules” around 1375. In this poem, he links the tradition of courtly love with the celebration of St. Valentine’s feast day. No record exists of these romantic celebrations on Valentine’s Day prior to his poem receiving widespread attention. In the poem, he refers to February 14 as the day birds (and humans) come together to find a mate. Chaucer may have invented Valentine’s Day when he wrote “For this was sent on Seynt Valentyne’s day / Whan every foul cometh there to choose his mate.” This is one of the earliest references to St. Valentine’s Day being a special day for lovers.

Yet, Valentine’s Day has become a day of showing love and appreciation to all of those who are dear and close to us. Do you need to get away for a romantic Valentine's Day weekend?
