In just four short years, 2020 Eyecare Ohio has grown from eye-catching startup to regional eye-care leader. And now, an expansion to its facility allows the practice to “double down” on a commitment to serving neighbors with state-of-the-art technology and customer-first services.

What’s the secret to its success? Drs. David Williams and Alex Gibberman chalk it up to taking what they say is a “different approach” to eye care.

“First, we own our practice,” Alex says. “And we plan on owning it for the duration of our careers—so we’re committed to a long-term strategy.”

“We also place a strong emphasis on creating a positive office culture and prioritizing employee retention,” he adds. “We want to ensure our patients are greeted by familiar faces every time they visit.”

When David and Alex first opened their doors in 2020, there were some concerning trends taking place within the industry.

“We noticed a growing shift toward a private equity-owned, multilocation corporate model,” David explains, adding that the trend seemed to begin when private optometry practices began selling to private equity firms. “As private equity took control, practices became increasingly focused on short-term gains—prioritizing immediate revenue over long-term patient care” Which led to practices overloading their schedules to maximize patient volume. The result, he continues, was “high staff turnover, poorly maintained facilities, subpar customer service, and long wait times to see a doctor.”

David and Alex’s business model for 2020 Eyecare was created as a direct response to that trend. Today, their dedicated customer base is proof-positive that their strategy was a sound one.

Also key to 2020 Eyecare’s success has been providing a comprehensive suite of services—including dry eye treatment, myopia control, and management of eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetes-related eye conditions, and macular degeneration.

One treatment in particular, however, has made a big impression on both of the docs.

“Our most fulfilling offering is specialty contact lens services—often referred to as scleral contact lenses,” Alex says. “It’s amazing what these lenses can accomplish, and we’re amazed every day by the results they achieve. These lenses help treat a variety of conditions, from irregularly shaped eyes to severe dry eye disease.”

David also notes the benefits of specialty contact lenses. “When we opened our office, we recognized the potential of these lenses to benefit our patients, but we couldn’t have anticipated just how many people would need this specialized care. We’re so happy to provide it.”

Regardless of the treatment or care any one patient might receive, 2020 Eyecare stands by its commitment to customer satisfaction, and both doctors express pride in receiving consistent positive feedback in regard to their staff, care and overall customer experience. “That, more than anything, has led to our growth,” Alex smiles. “Our goal has always been to combine modern practices with the kind of personal, old-school customer service that builds lasting relationships.”

David and Alex are quick to point out that they both also live in Loveland, which further cements their commitment to being involved in the community and investing in its success.

Their practice, they say, isn’t going anywhere—which is a very good thing for those in Loveland and the surrounding area. Especially now that their office footprint has doubled in size.

“We’re here to stay,” David confidently shares, “and excited to continue providing exceptional care for many years to come.”
