Incorporate Aromatherapy Into Your Daily Routine

The word 'aromatherapy' conjures up images of relaxed spa days and gentle music. But according to Susie Gibson, manager at Par Exsalonce Salon and Day Spa at Zona Rosa, aromatherapy is something that you can incorporate into your daily routine. As an Aveda spa, Par Exsalonce incorporates their naturally derived essential oils that are safe to use on the skin into many of their services. And while most people instantly think of lavender and eucalyptus when they think of therapeutic scents, there are many options of scents that can soothe or energize you. Here are five scents to try when lavender and eucalyptus seem ho-hum.

Tangerine

Tangerine awakens the senses. Gibson says that rubbing a few drops inside the wrist or rubbed on the scalp to help wake you up in the morning.

Bergamot

Bergamot is calming and relaxing. Bergamot oil is frequently used in massages to ease tensions and relax muscles. Think of bergamot oil as the equivalent of a cup of tea for your senses.

Patchouli

Patchouli brings the body into balance. The sweet scent helps to soothe and relax your mind. Use before bedtime to wind down.

Vanilla

The sweet scent of vanilla is calming and familiar. If you're using scents in your home, using a diffuser with vanilla essential oil in the kitchen can be very calming. A few drops in a bath is an easy way to clear your mind as well.

Peppermint

Peppermint oil can refresh and soothe dry skin. Use pre and post workout for a quick pick-me-up. Can be used for energy or relaxation.
