Del Sol Yoga and Kung Fu studio owners Claudia Castro-Leverett and Thomas Leverett established their studio in 2007 to encourage individuals and help them discover their personal power. Their teaching focuses on applying ancient practices of yoga, meditation and kung fu to everyday life.
Del Sol recently launched a Kid's Yoga Series and plans to offer regular kids' yoga classes starting this fall. The hour-long classes cater specifically to children ages 4 to 10 and align with adult yoga class schedules. While parents are welcome to observe, the classes encourage children to practice independence while allowing parents to enjoy their own practice simultaneously.
“Practicing yoga offers numerous benefits for children, especially in today’s world filled with screens and distractions. Yoga helps children slow down, focus, and be present,” says Faye Sokol, Del Sol’s kids' yoga teacher. “Through breath, movement and meditation, yoga stimulates the brain and cultivates a strong mind-body connection. It teaches children emotional regulation, provides an exciting activity to share with others, and fosters personal integrity and strength.”
Del Sol’s kids' yoga classes include physical postures, breathing exercises, meditation, mantras, games, dancing, and arts and crafts. The classes are interactive and engaging, featuring activities such as breath-focused meditation, visualization techniques, partner and group poses, energizing games, dances and songs. They accommodate children of different skill levels and experiences with yoga.
In addition to yoga, Del Sol offers youth kung fu programs, which help children develop strength, inner wisdom and mental stimulation. “Kung fu cultivates awareness of one’s surroundings, teaching children to move gracefully and powerfully,” says Thomas. “Through rigorous training, children develop a strong work ethic and the ability to master themselves.”
Del Sol’s kids' yoga and kung fu programs aim to empower children, fostering confidence, courage and calmness in any situation. Claudia states, “These offerings provide a holistic approach to physical and mental well-being for children, creating opportunities for growth, self-expression and personal development.”
