For many moms, one of the biggest stumbling blocks to getting in shape is finding daycare while attending a gym. Alanna Dunn, a U.S. Coast Guard veteran who is now a stay-at-home mom of three, found a solution when she discovered Delta Life Fitness, a women-only gym designed for moms just like her.
Delta Life is a one-of-a-kind workout facility, incorporating a three-step approach to its business model that pleasantly sets them apart. Step one is time-efficient 30-minute workouts. Step two is child supervision. And lastly, step three is cultivating a women-only environment.
“I had been wanting to join a gym for years, but could only do so if there was trustworthy, affordable childcare for my kids,” says Alanna. “I knew my 2-year-old wasn’t ready to be dropped off at just any childcare. When I saw the beautiful, clean, and brand new playroom at Delta and met the awesome women that care for the kids, I knew this would be a fun and friendly environment for them.”
Now a regular at the 4 o'clock class, Alanna enjoys the by-women for-women environment that defines Delta Life Fitness. “I never intended to join an all-women gym, but never ruled it out either,” she recalls. “After taking my first class, I felt challenged in a good way and supported by the trainers and other women.”
As a mom, Alanna is familiar with juggling many responsibilities and multitasking throughout the day, and Delta Life Fitness’s approach embodies that kind of proficiency as well. The workouts are intense but not too time-consuming. They focus on tone and sculpting while tracking the effect of a workout in real-time using innovative technology. The supervised kids corner is fun and comfortable for children, and includes activities they will enjoy. Alanna has seen this specifically as an important perk. “I wanted to make sure my kids enjoyed going to the gym with me,” she comments. “They do, which makes my workouts even better.”
And while the women-only environment isn’t every mom’s preference, the folks at Delta Life Fitness work hard to make their members feel comfortable and safe. Manager Hanna Green and assistant manager Carly Thomas say that their facilities are “beautifully designed to spoil you,” and everything, from the bathroom fixtures to the showers, is created with that purpose in mind.
But perhaps the best part about Delta Life Fitness is that it caters to women in all walks of life. “As someone who has had knee surgery, I love that the trainers help you with workout modifications as needed,” says Alanna. “You can always work hard to achieve your goals.”
