When it comes to high-end remodeling, a space doesn’t always need to make a grand statement to have a lasting impact. In fact, some of the most powerful transformations happen in the smallest, most intentional corners of the home—the places where love lives in the everyday.
For the February issue of Ann Arbor City Lifestyle, we are exploring the emotional side of design through a recent major remodel on Dobson Place. This project beautifully illustrates how a home can evolve alongside a family, shifting from a bustling hub for kids to a refined, intimate sanctuary for a couple in their next chapters together.
The Heart of the Home: A Table for Two
In the Dobson Place kitchen, the design moves away from the traditional massive "family-only" island to focus on a more personal connection. The centerpiece is a stunning, custom wood table for two seamlessly integrated into the kitchen's architecture.
Intentional Togetherness: Now that the kids are gone, this space serves as a dedicated zone for morning coffee, quiet dinners, and shared rituals that were often rushed in years past.
Waterfall Craftsmanship: The table is anchored by a striking white waterfall countertop that drops elegantly to the floor, creating a clean, modern frame for the warmth of the wood.
Texture and Tone: The rich, natural grain of the thick timber table is paired with artisan leather-weave chairs, adding tactile layers that make the space feel both luxurious and incredibly inviting.
Beyond the Kitchen: Designing for Connection
The Dobson Place remodel spanned three floors, each redesigned to support the couple’s new lifestyle.
The Library Retreat: On the second floor, a space that once served as an orchidarium was transformed into a sun-drenched reading library. With tall windows overlooking the backyard, it provides a quiet sanctuary for the couple to recharge together or enjoy a peaceful solo moment.
Reimagined Master Suite: We reconfigured the entry to the primary suite to enhance privacy and flow, turning it into a true retreat that feels like a weekend getaway every day of the week.
A Place for Guests: While the home now caters to the couple, the remodeled basement includes a new guest bedroom and family room—perfect for when the family returns for holidays or special visits.
Make It Personal
Ultimately, intimate spaces are about emotional connection. Whether it’s a built-in bench by a fireplace, dual vanities for morning rituals, or a custom table designed for long conversations, we believe true luxury lies in how a space makes you feel.
