Designer Consignor

Service-centered women empowerment

Tell us about yourself – your background, family, etc.

I'm Linda Linard Ligsukis. I've been a Westfield resident for 14 years, primarily because I have children here. However, deep down, I'm a Jersey girl with a love for big hair. You could say I was born with mascara in one hand and a can of Aquanet hairspray in the other! I've always had a strong sense of fashion.

How did Designer Consignor get its start?

I didn't set out to start a business; I was just a customer at Designer Consignor. My career was in law firm administration, with photography as a side gig. But in 2015, after leaving the corporate world and contemplating retirement, an unexpected opportunity came my way. The business needed a complete overhaul and was in a less-than-ideal location. However, being a risk-taker, I was confident I could turn it into a thriving shop, which I have.

What products/type of consignment do you offer?

We specialize in upscale women's clothing and accessories, with a touch of home decor. We only accept items in perfect condition that are still in vogue. Surprisingly, around 20% of the items we receive are brand new, complete with tags. Our customer base spans a wide age range, from about 25 to 85, with sizes ranging from XS to 3X. We aim to cater to diverse fashion styles.

What do you love most about your business?

Certainly, I enjoy offering high-quality, affordable fashion, especially in an area with limited women's clothing stores. Even more rewarding is the sense of service I feel today. Consignment shopping aligns with sustainability and is increasingly popular. It also aids women in making ends meet in challenging economic times, something I find particularly important. Our store promotes women supporting women and fosters an interactive shopping experience. I love seeing customers provide feedback to others trying on outfits. It creates a fun and welcoming shopping atmosphere. Our customers are like friends.

What's unique about your store?

We stand out as the only consignment store in Western MA that carries gowns, particularly for mothers of the bride and black-tie events. What sets us apart is our reputation for hosting consignment shopping bus tours, which I've been organizing for the past 8 years and have grown to four trips a year. We also host a few in-store parties each year. This year, one of them was a Barbie-themed party. So, we're more than just a typical consignment store.
