“It wasn’t my plan to be an interior designer when I graduated from college and returned home” says Elizabeth Boland, “but I ended up loving it.”

Carolyn Wilson, Elizabeth’s mother, is her inspiration. In 1998 Carolyn started her own successful business “Design in a Day,” which began with the concept of helping a client work with what they had to transform their living spaces into new and fresh environments. She would go to a home and with unerring instinct know how to rearrange furniture, often adding elements using the homeowner’s own books, pillows, and other items for a totally new look.

Fifteen years ago, Elizabeth joined her mother and the company, now Wilson Boland Design, has evolved and transitioned into a full-service interior design firm. Wilson Boland handles all types of interior design projects, whether for new buildings, renovations, or kitchen and bathroom designs. With Elizabeth now at the helm furniture, accessories and lighting can be purchased at their studio, located in Bethesda. Following her mother’s example, Elizabeth is not afraid to move existing furniture around herself, using furniture sliders for heavy pieces. She is also quick to rely on existing resources in a client's home, rearranging furniture to different rooms or suggesting upholstering older pieces in alignment with the updated spaces.

Wilson Boland’s clients live primarily in Montgomery County. They are currently working with two clients in Potomac, one whose house received a much-needed facelift with a new kitchen, bathroom, remodeled family room, mudroom, basement, new window treatments and a new paint job. A second Potomac home needed work done to a master bedroom and several bathrooms due to water damage.

Elizabeth is continuing a family tradition of guiding her clients to avoid costly design mistakes and adding to what they already own and love in their home. “We work to achieve the best possible design plan for each individual family and their unique needs.”

Our recent bathroom renovation has changed our lives and even more recently she found an absolutely beautiful sofa for our living room. I wouldn’t use anyone else.
