David McDonald is the owner of Victoria Renovations, a family-owned company passionate about designing and remodeling homes that make memories. From kitchen and bathroom remodeling to whole home remodeling, their in-house design team works with clients to create and design their vision from the ground up. We sat down with David after his team completed this project in Alpharetta.
I understand you’ve done business with this family in Alpharetta before, finishing their basement 20 years ago, a year after your business opened. Then, you renovated the kitchen last year and bathrooms most recently. That’s amazing! Tell us about the most recent work. What were your goals and the homeowner's goals with the renovation?
They have four children that have grown up in the house so it had plenty of wear and tear of those years. The house has great bones as it was built with 10-foot ceilings which was not as common back in the late ’90s. The family wanted it updated a design that would create a more open feel and a connected space between the kitchen and family rooms. We removed the wall, added hardwood floors in the family room to connect the two rooms better. All of the hardwood floors on the main level of the house were sanded and stained in a light grey color. A full repaint of the interior was also completed.
Removing a wall in the kitchen meant loss of storage. How did you solve that issue?
We developed a plan to remove the small pantry area and expand that space to allow for larger pantry cabinets with lots of roll-out storage and organizational space. That way, we kept all the wonderful windows along the back wall while opening up the living areas.
