Breakthrough (PG)

Based on the novel The Impossible by Joyce Smith and Ginger Kolbaba, Breakthrough portrays the unbelievable true story of local St. Charles County teenager John Smith (Marcel Ruiz). John falls through the ice in 2015 while playing with his friends on a local lake. Once rescued, he has no pulse for more than 45 minutes. When his mother, Joyce, (Chrissy Metz) and father, Brian, (Josh Lucas) put all their hopes and faith in God, knowing that he will help their son pull through, it seems that divine intervention is exactly what’s taken place, as John awakes from his coma, happy, healthy and grateful to have survived this horrific experience.

Also starring Topher Grace as Rev. Jason Noble, Breakthrough is the must-see movie this month, arriving in theaters Wednesday, April 17.

If you’d rather head home after dinner, then you have to catch Vice, available on DVD April 2.

Vice (R)

Adam McKay pulls out all the stops for this perfect date-night flick. He formulates a very entertaining yet surprising film as it shares McKay’s take on the trails, tribulations and profound political aptitude of our country’s most influential vice president to date: Dick Cheney. Vice stars Golden Globe and Critic’s Choice Award-winning actor Christian Bale as Cheney, along with a supporting cast that has received accolades for their performances, including Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney and Sam Rockwell as George W. Bush.

Vice also stars Steve Carrell as Donald Rumsfeld and Tyler Perry as Colin Powell, and it’s definitely one of 2018’s best films.
