Blue Ridge and Jekyll Island rated among most dog-friendly vacation destinations in 2023

In recent years, there has been a marked surge in pet owners searching for vacation options that not only cater to human comfort and adventure, but also to the needs and enjoyment of their canine counterparts. Gone are the days when family vacations meant a sorrowful goodbye at the kennel's door. Now, a growing trend towards dog-friendly destinations is reshaping the travel industry. Hotels, airlines, and tourist destinations are increasingly recognizing and catering to this change in consumer behavior.

EuroPuppy.com carried out a survey of 3,000 dog-owning families to rate their preferred summer vacation destinations when traveling with their beloved pets. They then put together a ranking of the 100 Most Dog Friendly Vacation Destinations in America. The list has plenty of Southern destinations, including Blue Ridge and Jekyll Island.

Blue Ridge, Georgia came in 61st position overall. Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this charming town provides a scenic backdrop for families and their furry companions to explore. Blue Ridge boasts an abundance of dog-friendly hiking trails, such as the Aska Trails and the Benton MacKaye Trail, where families can embark on exhilarating walks amidst breathtaking landscapes. The town's picturesque downtown area is lined with pet-friendly shops and cafes, allowing families to enjoy a leisurely stroll and dine with their four-legged friends by their side. Blue Ridge offers pet-friendly accommodations, ensuring a comfortable stay for everyone. Families can also take advantage of pet-friendly activities, such as visiting the nearby pet-friendly orchards and wineries.

"Clients will often ask me if Blue Ridge is pet friendly," says Laura Elleby, Partner of E+E Group, an expert Realtor in the area with COMPASS of North Georgia. "The answer is an absolute yes! With 300 miles of hiking trails, the Toccoa River and Lake Blue Ridge, your dogs will enjoy the vast outdoors.

"Head downtown and get them a treat at a number of stores and do some shopping for yourself, too, as the majority of stores welcome pets inside. It’s no surprise Blue Ridge has been rated a pet-friendly town because that’s how we are in the mountains; we welcome all, and that includes people and pets!"

Jekyll Island, Georgia was voted by dog owners as the 68th favorite vacation destination. This barrier island boasts pristine beaches that welcome four-legged companions, providing ample space for joyful romps and refreshing swims. With miles of scenic trails winding through lush forests and picturesque marshlands, families and their furry friends can enjoy invigorating walks and explorations together. Jekyll Island offers numerous pet-friendly accommodations, ensuring a comfortable stay for both humans and their beloved pets. From charming cottages to spacious vacation rentals, families can find suitable lodging that accommodates their furry companions. Additionally, the island features dog-friendly restaurants and outdoor dining options, allowing families to savor delicious meals while keeping their canine companions by their side.
