When 42 artistic "Doors of Hope" recently were installed throughout the St. Louis bi-state region to tell the stories of cancer patients’ journeys, the doors also symbolized St. Louis welcoming guests to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.
Families of cancer patients stay at the lodge at 4215 Lindell Blvd. And, a new lodge is being constructed, with the 42 doorways representing 42 guest suites to be available at the new facility. In the next 10 years, staffers anticipate 13,000 patients and caregivers will need to stay there. The lodge team hopes to raise $1 million to apply toward costs of building this new facility. Hidden messages can be found within some of the doors' artwork -- messages that can only been seen in-person when the sunlight hits different angles. A map of the door locations can be found online at 42DoorsOfHope.org.
