Founded in 1933, the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta is committed to promoting volunteerism, developing potential and improving the community through the action and leadership of trained volunteers. This mission wouldn’t be possible without community support — donors, sponsors and partners. It’s important for JLCM and its members to host exciting events to not only accomplish this mission but invite the community to help.
One such event is the League’s Mint Julep Mingle, their inaugural Derby Party, held Saturday, May 6 at Boxwood Social Hall on historic Marietta Square.
“We are elated to be hosting this first-time event, which is actually replacing our annual Online Spring Fundraiser,” says Amber Wilson, JLCM’s vice president of fund development. “It will not only be a fun experience that the community can attend, but proceeds from ticket sales, auction bids and a raffle will support the Cobb County organizations we give back to year-round through our service projects.”
Each year, the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta’s financial impact is more than $200,000. This is achieved through grants, volunteer hours and agencies in Cobb, including the Cobb County Safety Village; Center for Family Resources; SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center; Center for Children and Young Adults; Communities in Schools; Cobb County Division of Family and Children Services; Omosaze Inc.; and the Cobb County Youth Museum.
Mint Julep Mingle guests will enjoy live entertainment, a silent auction, a hat contest, hors d'oeuvres served by 1885 Grill–Acworth, cocktails and a livestream of the 148th Kentucky Derby.
“Our planning committee has already done so much work behind the scenes to help make this event a success, so we can’t wait to share it with our guests,” Wilson adds. “And we are excited about how the Mint Julep Mingle is a new opportunity for our League members, as well as a new way for the community to come out and support the women and children we do so much for year after year.”
