Journey to Wellness With Duben Holistic Chiropractic Center

After almost 17 years, Duben Holistic Chiropractic Center has moved to a new office in Westlake Village.

The new office, located at 4165 E. Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Suite 301, will give Dr. Alan Duben and Dr. Lindsay Erickson the ability to serve the Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village community more effectively.

“The new office is just down the street from our old office across from the Westlake Promenade on Thousand Oaks Boulevard,” Dr. Duben says. “At the new office we will have a new fresh start and look with the same holistic, patient-focused service.”

Duben Holistic Chiropractic Center addresses wellness with a three-pronged approach: structural, nutritional and emotional.

“We are holistic doctors and would welcome the opportunity to work with you and help you live your best and healthiest life,” Dr. Duben emphasizes. “These three components of the body as a whole are deeply interconnected and the body works best when all three are included in any type of health treatment.”

Here is an example of how Dr. Duben and his professional staff look at and communicate with your body:

“If a person comes into the office with knee pain, we need to be able to listen to and gather information about why the pain is there—who better to tell us the story about the knee pain than the body that the knee is connected to,” he explains. Using a technique called Applied Kinesiology, “we muscle test each individual muscle around the knee. And in this example find that there is a muscle that does not engage!”

Now we need to find out why.

“Using reflexes around the body we can diagnose if the muscle is not engaging due to a pinched or irritated nerve of the spine—maybe an acupuncture meridian that is known to govern the muscle is not providing appropriate energy to the muscle,” Dr. Duben explains.

It is also possible that the organ or gland that is associated with the muscle needs some nutritional support or has a restriction that does not allow it to move within the body correctly, which in turn would affect the muscle in a negative way.

“Another possibility is that there is an emotional issue that is shutting the muscle off,” he says. “One of my favorite sayings is ‘the issue is in the tissue.’ Our negative experiences, mostly from childhood, can be triggered and unearth a cellular memory that create pain in the knee or dis-ease of an organ or gland leading to pain or decrease of function, which then again shuts down the muscle.”

In Dr. Duben’s new office, “we will be working to help your body work more efficiently using therapies or tests within the three-pronged approach as described above,” he says. “Structurally, we may adjust the spine or another joint in the body to increase motion or work on trigger points in the muscles to release tension.”

Nutritionally, “we have specialized tests to focus on your heart, brain, blood and digestion. Using the muscle test we can design a personalized nutritional protocol just for you. And emotionally, we use a technique called Neuro-Emotional Technique to diagnose and treat the stressful events from your life that create an inappropriate reaction in your body or mind.”

Above all, “we welcome the opportunity to become your partner on your journey to complete holistic wellness.”
