Built From the Ground Up
At 17, while most teenagers were thinking about graduation, Jack Earl was thinking about buying a business.
In 2020, while still a junior, Earl purchased a small hidden dog fence company after his uncle, a business broker, introduced him to the opportunity.
"I always liked dogs and I liked working outside, so it just worked out really well to be able to do both," Earl says.
The timing couldn't have been better. As pet ownership surged during the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for hidden dog fences grew right along with it.
"Our first year we installed 300 fences, while the previous owner had installed 100," Earl says. "It was a ton of fun, but it was pretty busy that first year."
The company began as an hidden dog fence business, but as Earl spent more time helping homeowners, he recognized another need. Families were investing in patios, pools and landscaping, yet many couldn't fully enjoy those spaces after sunset.
Earl Outdoor Solutions gradually expanded to include landscape lighting and outdoor audio, allowing the company to create complete outdoor environments while furthering Earl's mission of helping Omaha homeowners fully enjoy their outdoor spaces.

One project brought nearly every one of Earl's services together.
"When I was doing the estimate, I noticed their dogs were tearing up all the landscape lights," Earl says. "We installed a hidden dog fence around the landscaping so the dogs couldn't get into the lights or irrigation anymore. They had 50 or 60 lights that weren't working because the dogs had damaged them. We repaired everything, added additional lights and upgraded the system.
"It was fun because we got to do everything for them, the lighting, the speakers and the dog fence."
Sometimes the impact reaches far beyond landscaping.
"I have a lot of customers that are on the verge of getting rid of their dog," Earl says. "If I'm able to help them keep their animal, that makes it all worth it."

"It's a pretty common problem, and it's a very simple fix," Earl says. "Usually, all that's needed is a light to illuminate the numbers on the home, and that saves homeowners a lot of headaches."

"It's really neat to have speakers placed throughout the property so everyone enjoys the music equally," he says.
