Routine cancer screenings can be lifesaving, especially when it comes to breast cancer. Thanks to advances in diagnostic imaging, women today have access to more accurate and earlier detection tools than ever before. Dr. Vito Errico, President of Diagnostic Imaging of Milford, and his team are at the forefront of this effort, providing state-of-the-art mammography and diagnostic imaging services that prioritize both patient care and early detection.
Founded in 1993, Diagnostic Imaging of Milford has long served its community. Dr. Errico joined the practice in 2000, with Dr. Eric Ragaza following in 2005 and Dr. Laura Soldano in 2014. Together, they have built a practice that emphasizes teamwork and a commitment to excellence in imaging. While Dr. Soldano handles most of the mammography work, including ultrasound-guided biopsies, Dr. Errico oversees the practice’s operations and ensures patients receive high-quality care at every step.
“We work together to ensure everything from screenings to diagnostics runs smoothly,” says Dr. Errico. “Whether it’s following ACR (American College of Radiology) guidelines or walking a patient through next steps after a diagnostic mammogram, our focus is always on clear communication and patient support.”
One of the most important advancements in recent years is the adoption of 3D mammography, which Dr. Errico describes as “state-of-the-art.” With this technology, radiologists are able to detect smaller tumors than they could with traditional methods. “We’re now picking up tumors earlier and with more clarity,” Dr. Errico explains, which can significantly affect treatment outcomes, while also helping reduce call back rates for additional mammography views.
In addition to 3D mammography, they also utilize ultrasound as a supplemental tool, particularly for women with dense breast tissue. “Combining 3D mammography with ultrasound provides better outcomes,” he says. This approach allows for more accurate diagnoses and helps ensure that nothing is missed.
For those unfamiliar with mammograms, the process is straightforward. Dr Errico provided us with the following information when asked what patients should know about screening protocols. The American College of Radiology (ACR) recommends annual screenings starting at age 40 for women of average risk. For those considered high-risk—such as women with BRCA1 or BRCA2 genetic mutations or a strong family history of breast cancer — screenings should begin between the ages of 25 and 30 and may include additional imaging like ultrasound or MRI.
“Mammography is a safe and effective method for early detection,” Dr. Errico emphasizes. Knowing your family history and understanding your risk is a critical part of the screening process. For women with dense breasts, supplemental screening can make all the difference.
Unfortunately, delays in screening remain common. “During COVID, many patients skipped their annual exams,” says Dr. Errico, “but early detection is key.” He cites that early-stage breast cancer, if detected, has a survival rate of over 99%.
It’s clear that diagnostic imaging plays a vital role in preventative care, but Dr. Errico and his colleagues all expressed gratitude that their services have grown in popularity. “We’re lucky that over the past two decades, awareness of what we do has grown substantially.” Increased understanding has led to much better outcomes for women all across the nation.
Dr. Errico, a neuroradiologist by training who studied at Yale, appreciates the detailed anatomy that imaging reveals. “I enjoy the complexity of it — seeing anatomy clearly and using that to help patients,” he says. His passion for medicine and patient care drives the practice’s mission of combining technology with a personalized touch.
Diagnostic Imaging of Milford loves their community. They have participated and plan to continue to participate in events like the Milford Hospital Mother’s Day 5K and the Milford Oyster Festival on the Green, providing outreach and raising awareness about the importance of cancer screening. Located near the Post Road and the waterfront, their independent practice offers what Dr. Errico calls “more personalized and traditional medical care.”
“We’re not part of a larger hospital system, which means we don’t have facility fees, and our patients enjoy easier access and close communication with our staff,” he explains. Even the parking is easier to coordinate for their patients. Dr. Errico says “From the easy parking to the utmost care, we are for the Milford community.”
Dr. Errico wants women to understand that mammograms are a simple, safe, and crucial part of their healthcare routine. “Don’t delay your screening,” he says. “Early detection saves lives.” He also offers a word of appreciation for Dr. Soldano, whose expertise in mammography, radiology, and biopsies makes her an essential part of the team.
Ultimately, the work of Dr. Errico and his team reflects the power of early detection and the importance of accessible, community-based, boutique care. Through innovation, teamwork, and a deep respect for their patients, they continue to make a difference for women in the Milford community and beyond.

Dr. Vito Errico is the president of Diagnostic Imaging of Milford, located at 30 Commerce Park. The practice was originally founded in 1993. After training at Yale University in neuroradiology, Dr. Errico joined Diagnostic Imaging of Milford in 2000, followed shortly by Dr. Eric Ragaza in 2005 and Dr. Laura Soldano in 2007. Together, their team works to provide expert, high-quality care to patients using innovative technologies while adhering to state guidelines.
Services offered at Diagnostic Imaging of Milford include mammography, arthograms, X-ray, MRI, steroid injections, ultrasound, image-guided biopsy, and more. Though mammography is just one of the services provided, Dr. Errico and his team emphasize the importance of routine screenings for early detection. For the physicians at Diagnostic Imaging of Milford, patient comfort and care is their driving purpose, and they continue to invest in the Milford community through their offered services and ongoing community outreach.
