Christmas shopping for me is more than a hobby, it’s a sport, and I'm always working to build endurance. Hence when it comes to my fav go-to spots, I don’t discriminate.
Christmas is a playful and magical time, where we reminisce on the Christmas’ we’ve had and get excited for the ones to come (and for Home Goods to get their next delivery!). It’s a time to be bold and go outside your style comforts. Take some risks, because it only gets to stick around for a month, or two if you’re me!
This style is eclectic, mixing the old with the new, the traditional with the modern, color with the neutrals and the basic with the OTT ( OTT = over the top), not sticking to the script in terms of a specific style genre or being confined to a specific color scheme
Each year I start with staple pieces, then jazz them up with a ribbon or bow, because everyone loves a good accessory and then go from there. My life motto is “more is more”, and I think you’ll find decorating fun when you incorporate more too.
Warm Holiday Welcome
These hurricane lamps are from Target, and the bows and garland are all from Home Depot. After a good Home Goods session and I found the wreath and Joy sign. It is hard to escape that place empty-handed. You can’t beat a good nutcracker! I saw this one at Walmart for about $100 and just couldn’t leave him behind
Style tip: Mixing different heights creates a pleasing aesthetic without making a space look too busy or like a storage unit.
Cozy Reading Nook
Nothing says Christmas more than a life-size singing Santa from Hobby Lobby. Deer accessories are among my favorites, so much that I leave this cushion from Target out beyond the New Year. The color scheme ties the look together, inspired by a statement chair that I found at Refined Consign & Design, 7562 S University Blvd, Centennial. It’s like a treasure hunt, as you never know what bargains old and new are awaiting.
Style tip: Mix textures and patterns like tartan, cow print and stripes in the same color to adds interest, but not overwhelm the senses,
Festive Basement Corner
Don’t forget your basement and corners. Here, peel and stick statement paper was added to the wall to turn an often overlooked area into an intentional and inviting space. The love seat from Home Goods fit right in and become a cozy spot for another fav, wine and reading. For the tree, find balance by using tiers of height, with triangular beaded Christmas trees and nutcrackers.
Style tip: Go bold with patterns, spots to stripes, with colors, classic white and everything in between. Mix the old, like this good old train set, with the new, a furry fluffy multicolored wreath.
