DINE-IN OR ORDER OUT

Today I want to send my local support to Boulevard Seafood Company in Somerville, NJ. Back in August about 2 1/2 weeks before our daughter was born we had an outdoor dining adventure there for my birthday. Seafood is on the top of my list when it comes to favorite foods so Tom wanted to teat me to it. We sat out on the back deck on this hot August day and enjoyed some very light and flavorful seafood.

I started my meal with the chilled gazpacho featuring jumbo lump crab meat, watermelon, and chive oil. This was the most delicious and refreshing way to start my meal. It was sweet, savory, and cold. The ultimate palate teaser on a hot summer day.

For my entree, I ordered one of their small plates, the pan-seared dayboat scallops. This small yet rich dish features pine nut and raisin gremolata lemon vinaigrette. This may sound silly, but the only way to describe this is... YUMMY! The scallops were cooked perfectly and full of so much flavor from that sear. It was served over a warm kale salad that was so perfectly balanced thanks to the sweet raisins.

Tom started his meal with 1/2 a dozen oysters which I have no picture of because he was so excited to eat them. He said they were so ocean-fresh with a hint of sweetness.

For his entree, he went with the crispy cod tacos featuring mango tomato salsa, pickled red onion, arugula, and chili aioli. You get the choice of two or three tacos. After much debate, he went with two and he was really glad he did. They're really big. You honestly cannot go wrong with these tacos, crispy fish with sweet mango is so good!

Now let's fast forward to now. We have a baby and it's way too cold for outdoor dining. So we placed an order on Doordash and got to enjoy all this seafood goodness at home with a bottle of wine.

We ordered the yellowfin tuna poke featuring avocado, scallions, grapefruit & orange, and a citrus ponzu sauce. We've had real poke in Hawaii and this is a must-order. The quality of tuna is exactly what we experienced on our honeymoon.

We opted for sandwiches for our entrees to keep the cost down a bit. I don't like to go crazy when ordering takeout. Tom had the yellowfin tuna burger featuring hand-chopped tuna, guacamole, lettuce, sweet onion, tomato on a butter toasted Hawaiian bun. My order, unfortunately, or fortunately got messed up. I originally ordered the hard cider battered flounder po boy, but somehow ended up with a hybrid version of that sandwich and the grilled ancho chili shrimp po boy. It had the apple slaw from the flounder sandwich with the shrimp and cajun remoulade of the shrimp sandwich. For some weird reason, these very different flavors went really well together. Boulevard Seafood should consider putting this on the menu.

If this food sounds good to you definitely order some takeout! I believe they are still open for some kind of in-person dining as well.
