Emma’s Sandwich Sushi

A fun twist on lunch—two ways!

Lunchtime just got a whole lot more fun! Emma’s Sandwich Sushi is a tasty way for kids to build their own back-to-school lunch. With just a few ingredients and no grown-up help needed (maybe just a little for chopping!), these roll-ups are easy to make and even more fun to eat. Try a savory BLT or go sweet with fruit and Nutella!

Savory BLT Roll-Ups

Ingredients:

  • Sandwich bread
  • Cooked bacon
  • Mayonnaise
  • Lettuce (small pieces or shredded)
  • Tomato (thin slices)
  • Shredded cheese

Sweet Strawberry-Banana Roll-Ups

Ingredients:

  • Sandwich bread
  • Nutella
  • Sliced strawberries
  • Sliced bananas

Instructions (for both recipes):

  1. Flatten the Bread:
Gently press each slice of bread with a rolling pin to make it flat and easy to roll.
  2. Add the Filling:
    • For the BLT version, spread a thin layer of mayo on the bread, then add a little lettuce, a slice or two of tomato, crumbled bacon and a sprinkle of shredded cheese.
    • For the Sweet version, spread Nutella over the bread, then place a row of sliced strawberries and bananas near one edge.
  3. Roll It Up:
Carefully roll the bread up starting from the side with the fillings, just like a sushi roll.
  4. Slice It:
Use a kid-safe knife (or ask an adult to help) to cut each roll into 3–4 bite-size pieces.
  5. Serve!
Arrange the pieces on a plate like sushi and enjoy! Toothpicks or chopsticks are optional!

Pro Tip:

Make both kinds for a perfect lunch combo—savory first, then sweet for dessert!
