BREAKING BARRIERS

This thriving collective of holistic health and wellness practitioners continues to make a difference each and every day. I believe Dr. Susan and Dr. Liz would agree, it’s a bit of a “pinch me” scenario to have NINE Doctors on the SuNu Chiropractic Team! They are truly empowering wellness with the rise of chiropractic care at SuNu.

Two new Doctors begin their careers at SuNu which makes the options and access to care better than ever. SuNu Founder, Dr. Susan’s, unwavering commitment to hosting a nurturing environment where patients can feel understood and cared for, is delivered by this outstanding team. Competency and compassion are invaluable traits within the realm of healthcare. The all-women chiropractic team of SuNu Wellness embodies these qualities, offering a safe space where patients can feel heard, respected, and cared for.

FOSTERING TRUST AND COMFORT

Trust forms the cornerstone of any successful patient-practitioner relationship. Dr. Liz, Owner of the Linden Hills office, has worked tirelessly to establish a nurturing chiropractic team, where open dialogue and active listening are paramount. Doctors take the time to engage with patients, attentively listening to their needs, understanding their health history, and collaboratively charting a personalized treatment plan.

The Linden Hills office has THREE full time Doctors eager to treat you and your family. Dr. Liz is joined by Dr. Cait and, now, Dr. Belle. These three chiropractors complement each other in the best ways, and distinguish themselves with their own unique passions and areas of expertise. It’s exciting to have this well-rounded team with such a robust skillset. We are thrilled to introduce you to the newest member, Dr. Belle.

MEET DR. BELLE

Dr. Belle graduated in 2023 from Northwestern Health Sciences University. After interning with both Dr. Liz and Dr. Cait, she accepted a position with SuNu and begins her Chiropractic career at the Linden Hills office. As a dedicated Chiropractor with a passion for holistic health, she provides specialized care in nutrition, prenatal, pediatrics, and family wellness. With a commitment to ongoing education, Dr. Belle strives to empower individuals and families to achieve optimal well-being through chiropractic care and lifestyle adjustments.

Dr. Belle is the embodiment of empowering wellness. She takes a very connective approach to care. Dr. Belle is committed to being a true partner to her patients throughout any and all stages of their individual health and wellness journey. She can tell you herself:

“In my practice, I prioritize building strong, trusting relationships with my patients. I believe in taking the time to listen to your concerns, understand your health goals, and develop personalized treatment plans that align with your individual needs and preferences. Whether you’re seeking relief from pain, support during pregnancy, or proactive wellness care for your family, I am here to provide compassionate, effective solutions to help you thrive.”

DR. BELLE’S STORY

“My journey into chiropractic care began with a deep-rooted belief in the body’s innate ability to heal itself when given the right support. The memory of my beloved little brother, who courageously battled pediatric bone cancer until his untimely passing, serves as a guiding light in my journey towards a career in holistic health and chiropractic care. Witnessing his resilience in the face of adversity ignited within me a profound passion for healing and holistic well-being. His journey taught me the importance of treating the whole person – mind, body, and spirit – and inspired me to pursue a path dedicated to providing compassionate care that nurtures both physical and emotional wellness. With every patient I treat and every life I touch, I carry his spirit with me, honoring his memory by striving to make a positive difference in the lives of others through chiropractic care and holistic healing practices.”

YOUR PARTNER IN WELLNESS

Beyond her clinical practice, she is fascinated with the connection of the mind and gut. Did you know there’s a powerful connection between your gut health and your brain function? As a chiropractor specializing in nutrition and holistic wellness, Dr. Belle is deeply invested in helping her patients understand and harness the potential of this vital connection for overall well-being.

Dr. Belle explains that the gut-brain axis is a bidirectional communication system between the gastrointestinal tract and the central nervous system. This intricate network involves various pathways, including the nervous system, immune system, and hormonal signaling. Research has shown that disturbances in the gut microbiome and intestinal barrier function can impact brain health and contribute to a range of conditions, including anxiety, depression, cognitive decline, and even neurodevelopmental disorders in children.

So, where does chiropractic care fit into this picture? Dr. Belle explains, “As a chiropractor, I focus on optimizing spinal health and nervous system function which plays a crucial role in regulating the gut-brain axis.” A few of the ways chiropractic care can benefit gut health and overall well-being include spinal alignment and nervous system function, stress reduction and enhanced immune function.

Here’s a just a small example of how Dr. Jess can help: here is her “supplement starter kit”, her list of five daily supplements she recommends as generally safe for most to take on a regular basis for optimum health and wellness.

“I WANT TO TAKE SUPPLEMENTS, BUT WHERE DO I START?”

If this is you, Dr. Jess is here to help!

1. MAGNESIUM

Magnesium is a critically important mineral involved in 300 processes in the body. It is specifically great for those who experience restless sleep, muscle twitches, spasms or cramps, menstrual migraines, and those with Type 2 Diabetes. More than 57% of the population does not meet daily intake requirement in the United States. The recommendation is 300-600 mg daily, depending on your body’s tolerance (watch for loose stool). So, it’s optimal to take before bed for a restful sleep. Still not convinced? Alcohol, coffee and stress depletes cellular magnesium, so that’s another reason to add it in.

Here’s a magnesium cheat sheet:

  • Sulfate – Soak/muscles

  • Citrate – Constipation

  • L-Threonate – crosses the blood brain barrier (depression/anxiety/memory loss)

2. VITAMIN D3/K2:

Vitamin D is actually a steroid. It’s important for bone health, blood health and immunity. It is fat soluble, for maximal absorption, take with fat (with avocado in the morning)!

Quick stats:

  • D3 – immune, K2 – healthy bones (ships calcium into bone)

  • 1000-4000 IU/day in the spring, fall and winter

  • Many of the body’s organs and tissues have receptors for vitamin D, suggesting roles beyond just bone health.

  • Harvard health says: vitamin D may reduce cancer growth, help control infections, and reduce inflammation in the body!

So, do you need another reason to add vitamin D to your routine? Very few foods are naturally rich in D3 – supplementation is a great, easy way to get it.

3. TRACE MINERALS AND LMNT ELECTROLYTES

Attention athletes and filtered water drinkers! Ditch the Gatorade – too much sugar. LMNT will provide optimal hydration and less brain fog. It’s great before or after a work out!

Just as important as LMNT electrolytes: trace minerals.

Filtered water may filter out important minerals such as magnesium, chloride, sodium, potassium, sulfate, lithium and boron. A couple drops of this supplement in your water bottle will help monitor the body’s pH levels. Trace minerals alkalize your cells. Certain trace minerals are food for the thyroid gland, so feed it!

4. OMEGA 3

Let’s learn about inflammation and how to mitigate it. Lots of our food is filled with pro-inflammatory fatty acids (omega 6 based). We are often LACKING in anti-inflammatory fatty acids (omega 3 based). Our goal is to balance this ratio and promote an anti-inflammatory state. You can do this by reducing foods and oils high in omega 6, or adding omega 3s. To ensure you skip out on mercury contamination in fish oil supplements, vegan alternatives, such as algae omegas, are great. They can be found at your local Whole Foods (fish oil is great IF well-sourced and trusted).

Why add this to your routine? It’s self-explanatory – most diseases thrive when the body is in a state of prolonged inflammation. No one is immune to inflammation… stress, environmental toxins, SAD diet, the list goes on!

5. ION GUT SUPPORT

We can thank Dr. Zach Bush, MD for this gem. Similar to a probiotic, ION gut support pulls glyphosate and pesticides from the GI tract. This promotes cell-to-cell communication in the gut. This is great news when organic foods are not fully accessible to you! It’s safe for babies, kiddos, parents and older/mature populations, those with OR without G.I issues. The ingredient Humic extract is US-sourced from ancient soil (60 million years old). It’s easy to do a couple drops in a glass of water before meals.

Why add this to your routine? Immune, digestion, mental clarity, metabolism and mood. 90% of serotonin and 50% of dopamine is produced in the gut, let’s do everything we can to keep this channel clear and open.
