Joshua's Place began as the local outreach for Rivers Crossing Community Church in South Lebanon, using the church's rented office space to start a food pantry. From the start, their mission was to go further than the average food pantry—they wanted to establish unique relationships with every family that they served. Eventually, they branched out to offer literacy tutoring, technology resources and addiction recovery services, making it possible for Joshua’s Place to help more people than ever before.
We spoke with Joshua’s Place founder Kevin Peyton about their expanded location in Mason and their upcoming plans.
Your organization began 13 years ago, and now includes hundreds of volunteers. What was your process of achieving success and how were you able to grow as impressively as you have?
A key to our growth has been our willingness to listen to the families we serve and provide help in a way that makes a difference while also preserving dignity and self-worth. We find that this approach resonates with those wanting to help, but not knowing exactly what help looks like. We currently have more than 400 volunteers who come from more than 30 churches in the areas surrounding the five school districts (Mason, Kings, Lebanon, Little Miami, Deer Park) that we support.
Can you describe your programs and the work that you do?
Our adult food cooperative is our marquis program where members receive $60 in groceries bi-weekly. Our children's programs include mentoring/tutoring, weekend food, daytime food snacks in school buildings and summer camps. Additionally, we do a lot of support for families where seasonal needs arise; like back to school, holidays and extracurricular activities.
What brought you to Mason?
Joshua's Place started in South Lebanon which was the office for Rivers Crossing Community Church before they had their own facility. We came to Mason as part of our desire to support the adjacent school districts to our original site in the Kings School District.
What is your favorite part about the work that you do with Joshua's Place?
Seeing families move from instability to stability. It’s not just about feeling good, but also about being able to provide relationships that encourage development and change.

Are there upcoming events that you'd like to share with the community?
