When life’s significant changes occur, we don’t think our style will get lost in the wake. For so many, it does, and just because you have a closet bulging with clothes doesn’t mean you love what’s in there.
Enter local stylist Devon Reinauer, who became a personal stylist after working in fashion and design for over 20 years. The catalyst for her styling business, Devon Remade, was when she had her second child and felt lost in her closet. She found her evolved style identity through a system of purging and tweaking and set out to help others do the same no matter what transitions they’re going through.
Simply put, Devon wants women to “enjoy getting dressed again.” She has over 70 clients, mainly in California. She works with some items already in clients’ closets and rebuilds from there. Her mantra is “fewer, better pieces,” and she pulls clothes mostly from Santa Barbara retailers—Heidi Merrick, Wendy Foster, and Wunderkind, to name a few. She also aims to support female designers. Ultimately, she wants women to feel their best, “Comfortable and confident in their clothes.”
During a visit to Heidi Merrick’s Summerland showroom, Devon worked with our model, Sophia Taylor, to find her style identity among the racks of tailored chic. Sophia wears many hats. A realtor/mom/model whose side business is Galavant, a backyard concert series promoting local musicians and artists, we aimed to find looks that felt right for Santa Barbara’s seasonal shift from summer to fall. Kids are back to school, and holidays are around the corner, but our hottest months still beckon beach days and BBQs.
“Season transitions can be easier with fewer, better pieces,” Devon reiterates. She recommends layering this time of year to be comfortable during hot days and cool evenings. She points out that neutrals are a starting point and can carry through all seasons. A slightly oversized blazer and sunglasses are “effortlessly cool.” Sophia lights up when she looks in the mirror in the Ibiza dress. In a somewhat sheer, ivory georgette fabric with an artful iris print, Devon explains, “That dress reads summer and fall.” Behold the perfect transition dress.
As a witness to Devon's style support, simplifying your style could help you navigate the challenges of going through a big transition. One less thing to worry about. Why not free up more space to focus on moving through adversity with more ease?
