Entertain with Apples

Fill your home with the aromas of fall with quick condiment and drink recipes.

Apple Chutney

Ingredients

3 tablespoons butter or ghee

2 cups Granny Smith apples, chopped 

1/4 cup toasted pecans or walnuts, chopped

1/3 cup apple cider vinegar

3 tablespoons brown sugar

3 tablespoons dried cranberries

1 teaspoon orange juice

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon ginger

1 cinnamon stick 

Chili flakes, to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat butter or ghee in a saucepan or small pot, then add a cinnamon stick and ginger, and cook until fragrant. 
  2. Add all other ingredients and cook covered over low heat until the apples are tender. 
  3. Remove the lid to cook until the sauce has mostly evaporated.  
  4. Remove the cinnamon stick and mash with a spatula or keep a chunky texture.
  5. Serve with a cheese board or pork dishes. 

Apple Cider Bourbon

Ingredients

Apple cider (hot or cold)

1 1/2 ounce bourbon or whiskey

1/2 ounce honey

1/2 ounce lemon juice

Cinnamon stick

Apple slice

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients to a cocktail shaker and shake well. 
  2. Serve warm or over ice and garnish with a cinnamon stick and an apple slice.
