Just 1.5 hours from Naples lies a destination that feels worlds away. South Seas Resort on Captiva Island has long been a cherished family tradition, and after a weekend stay, it’s easy to see why. Stretching across two and a half miles of pristine Gulf coastline, this storied resort blends timeless island charm with luxury, offering the ideal blend of relaxation and adventure for families and couples.

From the moment we checked into our Beach Villa, the calm of Captiva took over. Our family was greeted with a warm welcome and a resort cart to explore the expansive property, ideal for hopping between the beach, pools, restaurants and marina. My husband and I loved that South Seas offers accommodations for every kind of traveler. Beach Villas and Lands End are perfect for couples seeking privacy, while multi-bedroom homes suit families or groups who want more space. There are even stunning private residences available to rent, some of which have been known to host celebrities looking for a quiet Gulf-side retreat.

Every part of our stay blended relaxation with just the right amount of adventure. Dinner at Harborside was a highlight—the chicken piccata was perfectly balanced, and the marina views at sunset were picture-worthy. The next morning began with a round of golf at The Clutch, the resort’s new course designed by one of the visionaries behind Augusta National, home of the Masters—an exceptional experience for any golfer. Lunch at Tarpon Bar brought fresh seafood and coastal cocktails, followed by dinner at Beach House, where the sunset views and locally sourced catch rivaled any fine dining experience in Naples.

Saturday was all about family time. Our private cabana at the Bayview Pools offered the best of both worlds—quiet relaxation for adults and endless (and we mean endless) fun for the kids. Between swimming and seashell hunting, it was the kind of carefree day families crave but rarely find.

What stood out most was how South Seas is truly multigenerational—a place where grandparents, parents, and little ones all find something special. The resort’s upcoming Captiva Landing Water Park and Flippers Restaurant promise even more excitement, while Camptiva, the children’s drop-off program, ensures parents can enjoy a romantic dinner or a quiet walk along the shore.

South Seas isn’t just a vacation. It’s a return to the simple joys of connection, nature, and time well spent. Whether you’re reeling in a redfish, sipping a cocktail at sunset, or simply breathing in the salty breeze, this is a getaway that reminds you paradise isn’t far from home.

For locals, it’s the perfect spring break in your backyard—close enough for a weekend, yet just far enough to feel like a world apart.
