Exhibit C Gallery, located in Oklahoma City’s Bricktown district on Sheridan, is a premier First American art gallery and retail store owned and operated by the Chickasaw Nation.
At approximately 3,000 square feet, Exhibit C opened in July 2014 with a mission to feature works of art from Chickasaw and southeastern artists, as well as artists from across Indian Country whose work represents their communities, cultures and identities.
The gallery currently showcases pieces from approximately 55 First American artists in addition to featured exhibits, which rotate every four months—new exhibits start in March, July and November each year. Exhibits are curated to insight thoughtful and creative interpretation by the artists related to traditional and non-traditional First American culture and experiences.
Exhibition artists are invited to create works exclusively for each featured exhibit. “Clan Stories,” on display until Feb. 28, 2022, features seven First American artists using various mediums to tell the story of their family clans. Each artist has a written piece accompanying their artwork that provides additional information about First American Clans.
March 1 will mark the start of a new exhibit, “As We Gather: Plants and Foods of Our Land,” highlighting several different artists’ interpretations of plants and foods that are important to them and their individual cultures. The exhibit will feature a variety of mediums, such as basket weaving, painting and printmaking.
Each featured exhibit showcases three to 20 artists, each submitting one to four pieces. Each show presents an opportunity for Exhibit C to redesign the gallery to ensure the artwork tells a story for visitors.
Exhibit C also offers Pendleton and products from numerous First American companies, including Bedré Fine Chocolate and the Chickasaw Press and one-of-a-kind First American gifts such as hand-made pottery, contemporary paintings, jewelry, hand-woven baskets and more.
Exhibit C is open daily from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Check Instagram @exhibitcgallery or Facebook for updates on current and upcoming exhibits, as well as monthly deals.
