Experience Pure Barre

Discover a low impact and high intensity workout that builds confidence and offers motivating classes supported by a welcoming community.

For many people, barre brings to mind ballet shoes, studio mirrors, or the idea that it is a workout meant only for very fit people or just for women. Pure Barre Maple Grove breaks that stereotype in the first five minutes of class. The energy is upbeat, the movements are surprisingly powerful, and people of all fitness levels walk out feeling stronger than when they walked in. And believe us, our publisher has taken more than a few classes himself. If he can do it, anyone can. Leading the studio is owner Lindsey Van Heel, whose Pure Barre journey began long before she called Maple Grove home.

Her love for the technique started in Des Moines, Iowa. “It was truly love at first tuck,” Lindsey says. “The community, the supportive and knowledgeable instructors, and the incredible workout had me hooked from the very first class.” The Maple Grove studio opened in 2017, and when she took ownership in 2023, she brought a clear vision. “I wanted to create a space that feels like a second home, where everyone feels supported, challenged, and inspired.”

For newcomers, Lindsey describes Pure Barre as a blend of yoga, Pilates, and strength training. Classes are 50 minutes, musically driven, and built around precise movements that tone and strengthen the body. A big part of their approach is being a low impact and high intensity workout, something that sets Pure Barre apart immediately. “No dance or prior fitness experience is required,” she says. As members refine their form, the technique evolves with them, offering an experience that continues to challenge, reward, and build confidence.

One of the most memorable moments for newcomers is “the shake.” Lindsey explains, “It happens when your muscles work to fatigue through small, controlled movements. It means you are getting stronger.” It is Pure Barre’s signature sign of progress and a moment many members come to appreciate.

First timers often begin with the Engage class, a welcoming introduction to foundational movements and terminology. From there, members can explore four formats: Classic, Define, Align, and Empower. Each offers a unique focus and keeps the routine fresh, balanced, and motivating.

While the physical benefits draw people in, the atmosphere keeps them returning. “The support here is something really special,” Lindsey says. Friendships form naturally, milestones are celebrated, and members appreciate the accountability of a close community. “Pure Barre becomes a place where people feel inspired to show up for themselves and for each other.” she adds.

That sense of community extends beyond the studio. Pure Barre partners with local businesses for pop up classes, participates in Maple Grove Days, and hosts studio wide challenges such as Barre Stronger and Summer Burn. Wellness workshops on mindfulness, meditation, and pelvic floor health round out their holistic approach. The monthly member book club has become a favorite way to unwind, connect, and meet fellow members outside of class.

Looking ahead, Lindsey plans to deepen local partnerships. “In 2026, my goal is to build on the strong foundation we already have and create new connections within the community by partnering with more local businesses and organizations,” she says.

There is plenty ahead for the studio. Pure Barre will celebrate its anniversary February 10 to 14 with themed classes, retail specials, and community events. On March 1, the Barre Stronger 31 day challenge returns, encouraging members to complete 20 classes in 31 days and start spring feeling strong.

Whether you arrive confident, nervous, out of shape, flexible, curious, or somewhere in between, Pure Barre meets you exactly where you are. The studio is filled with encouragement, sweat, shaking muscles, and laughter. You might come for the workout, but you will stay for how good it makes you feel.

The support here is something really special. Our instructors create a welcoming, encouraging environment where everyone feels seen, motivated, and celebrated for their progress.

Pure Barre becomes more than a workout. It becomes a place where people show up for themselves and for each other.
