When Matt White came to Texas more than thirty years ago to participate in the Roundtop Antique Show, he ended up staying. With a passion for hospitality, combined with an endless urge to create, Matt turned his passion into reality when he opened the Flophouze Shipping Container Hotel, an unforgettable place to stay– made from recycled shipping containers and furnished with reclaimed items.

The hotel property is shared with Recycling the Past (RTP), a unique antique shop, which also doubles as The Roundtop Ballroom, a 12,000-square-foot event space that can accommodate up to 150 guests. Visitors are welcome to stroll around the property to see the salvaged artifacts and recycled treasures RTP has to offer.

“With our architectural salvage shop on the property we had tons of materials to play with,” Matt says, “So when people stay with us they see all the wonderful things that can be done with reclaimed materials."

Flophouze boasts out-of-the-box interiors using reclaimed items from all over the country, such as sustainably harvested wood from a farm in upstate New York or a distillery in Kentucky, windows from a school in Philadelphia slated for demolition, counter tops made from an old bowling alley’s lanes in Texas, and kitchen cabinet bases from a laboratory in Brooklyn. The shipping containers themselves have traveled the world many times over and are designed, furnished and adorned with recycled rugs, art, and fixtures – all available for purchase!

Matt and his crew also design and custom-build shipping container accommodations for purchase to fit your specifications. They can be shipped anywhere in the world.
