Faith, family and community are three very important things to me. While growing up in Brunswick, I was very close to my three brothers and sister. We did everything together–from family dinners to drive-in movies, to the many sporting events we were involved in and attending Brunswick United Methodist Church on Sundays. Sports were very important to me and representing my school in competitions, whether it was football, wrestling, baseball or track, gave me great joy.
One of the highlights of my sporting career was being inducted into the Brunswick High School Hall of Fame. I always felt so much pride to represent my school and compete with my teammates. After graduating from college, my wife Deanna and I settled in Medina. We took the examples of what family life should look like from our parents and used them as a guide for our family.
We attend Medina United Methodist Church, where Deanna sang in the choir and I taught Sunday school. We were also active with many mission trips with the children of the church as well. Having five daughters kept us very busy, but brought us great joy. Following in my father's footsteps, I became involved in coaching them in sports. Being involved with our children, whether it was in church activities, sporting events or other school events, and being able to live in a wonderful community like Medina was so rewarding for us.
I began my career with Allstate in 1982 as an agent in the old Sears Surplus Store in Medina. I took great pride in being able to meet the insurance needs of my customers. I was promoted to sales manager in 1985 and was able to take my experience as an agent to counsel and support other agency owners. It was always my desire to someday return to the agency force and to build a family agency.
In 2017 an opportunity became available for me to purchase an agency in Akron. I retired from my sales leader position and began my current path as Johnson & Associates Insurance Agency in April of 2017. My wife and I are the Agency Principals and we are fortunate to have three of our five daughters and our son-in-law working with us.
It has been a very rewarding experience for all of us. Being an agency owner gives us the chance to have a family business for many more years to come. We are hoping to open a second agency in Medina soon.
Over the many years working in the insurance industry, life insurance has been one of the most important coverages I’ve had the privilege to provide for my clients and my family. I’ve experienced this feeling personally as well, having lost my son-in-law to a tragic workplace accident. Without life insurance, my daughter and her three boys couldn’t have stayed in their home. Losing a loved one is never something you want to experience, but being able to remove some of the financial burdens that may come with that loss is something I’m proud to be able to do.
