Fall is officially here, which means pumpkin spice season has also arrived in all its cozy, caffeinated glory. But whether you’re a die-hard PSL fan or ready to venture beyond pumpkin in search of a new fall favorite, we know the perfect place for both: Base Camp Coffee & Provisions.
Located inside Unmapped Brewing Co. in Minnetonka, Base Camp is bringing the same craft and creativity to its coffee as Unmapped does to its beer.
“We recently started making our own syrups in-house, which we’re very excited about,” says Isaiah Henderson, manager at Base Camp. “It’s allowed us to get really creative with our fall seasonal drinks.”
This year, Base Camp is going savory.
“We have a rosemary drink. It’s a shaken cold brew with rosemary, brown sugar, and brown butter. To make it, we shake it up and serve without ice. It’s a fun, cocktail-inspired drink.”
Another new fall cocktail-inspired coffee drink is their Basil Peach Espresso Tonic. While espresso tonic has just recently gained traction in the States, it’s popular throughout Europe. “It’s like an Americano, but instead of pouring your espresso shot over water, you pour it over iced tonic. It’s meant to be more of a refreshing coffee drink,” explains Isaiah. “With the peach and the basil in there, it gives it a bright, complex profile.”
A Peach Cobbler Tea Latte will also join the fall lineup. Similar to a London Fog — a latte that uses Earl Grey tea instead of espresso, with a bit of vanilla and steamed milk — the Peach Cobbler Tea Latte swaps out Earl Grey for peach tea.
“It’s a cozy, fun fall weather drink,” says Isaiah. “We always like to have a theme for the seasonal menu, giving it some cohesion. This year we're leaning into that savory side, though of course we'll also have some dessert-themed drinks; that way, there's something for everyone.”
This includes one of their barista’s creations: the Miso Maple Latte. Made with miso paste and maple syrup, the latte has an umami-rich profile, like a more savory salted maple latte.
And, of course, their housemade Pumpkin Spice will round out the menu. “You gotta have it. It’s fall and a classic. But ours will be a Maple Pumpkin Latte, and so we’re excited about that one.”
A number of these new fall drinks will be available in their coffee flights, which Base Camp is well known for. Their flights come with four 5-6 ounce coffees, but this year they’re doing a little something different.
“When someone would like a flight, instead of a set flight as we’ve done in the past, we give them a little sheet with all the available options for the flight, and then they can choose four out of the 10 coffee options that they’d like. This way our guests can really customize their own.”
Beyond their specialty craft coffee, Base Camp offers a place for community to come together. “When you order, we don’t just push a button,” says Isaiah. “We’re a place where you’re seen, where our baristas ask about your day, and where they craft a drink with intention and care. And that, I think, is part of what brings people back.”
And this fall, there’s plenty of reason to come back for another sip.
