Let’s talk about Hairstyling Trends! What do you see on the horizon for the fall 2024 season?
We are starting to see the layered bob stick around even as we trend into fall and winter. Lots of fringe layers, face-framing bangs, and concentrating on fullness around the face. There is still a lot of longer hair around but the framing layers in front are starting to get popular.
What about color? Traditionally we go light in the summer and darker in the fall…do you see that holding in 2024?
I think there is a trend toward a more natural dimension. A more “rooted” look if you will. Not really the super dark tones, but backing off into the ashy or more neutral browns. Blondes are starting to tone it down as well. Still focusing on some brightness around the face, but overall everyone wants to add depth and dimension to their look in the fall and winter.
I love a more natural look. Are extensions still holding popularity?
Extensions are still around and consistently being requested. But, for the most part, we aren’t seeing people add huge lengths to their hair. It’s more to add volume and fullness and to give more frame to that shorter cut we are seeing.
What is some advice you can give to women who might be interested in trying
extensions for the first time?
The technology has come such a long way in the last couple of years. Now there are so many methods, textures, densities, and so forth that we can offer our clients. The most common are sew-in and tape-ins which everyone knows so well. I would suggest the sew-in wefts for a first-time extension style. They have a great bead base that really conforms to the head and truly feels light and comfortable. They blend so seamlessly into hair now and the wefts themselves have so many different degrees of volume for whatever “look” someone might be trying to achieve.
Makes sense to me! Other than extensions, what other trends may be sticking around or coming up? Is tinsel around to stay?
Yes, I definitely think tinsel is going to stick around for a bit longer. A lot of those early 2000 trends are coming back too. I am seeing a small resurgence of the feather extensions and the chunky highlights. We have kiddos coming in for tinsel through the older generation looking for a temporary kick to their style for a vacation or a celebration.
