Nearing 57 years in business, The Something Blue Shoppe in Hartselle is one of the Southeast’s oldest and most prestigious full-service bridal salons.
“Mothers and grandmothers are bringing their daughters and granddaughters to The Something Blue Shoppe to experience the exhilaration of carrying on the tradition and becoming a Royal Blue Bride,” beamed Owner TJ Holmes.
“For the past 14 years, I’ve had the privilege of leading and growing what I consider to be one of the top bridal and prom teams in the industry. Now, as the owner, I’m even more excited to shape the future of this incredible store and continue serving our brides and prom guests with the same passion and dedication,” he continued.
Housed in the Farmers and Merchants Bank built in 1915, The Something Blue Shoppe is quaint, warm, friendly and beautiful. Mothers of the brides and other guests can get cozy and enjoy coffee or a mimosa and let the professional bridal consultants do their work.
“They’ll listen as you talk about your desires and your wedding, ask the appropriate questions, then help you choose the gowns you want to try,” said Holmes. “After you choose your perfect wedding gown, you’ll be amazed at just how easy it is to make that decision when you have someone guiding you through the process.”
The store also has special occasion, prom and debutante gowns, and of course bridesmaid and flower girl dresses. And don’t forget accessories!
While many brides opt for summertime nuptials, Holmes said autumn is in fashion.
“In fact,” he shared, “over the past few years, October has become one of the most popular months for weddings!”
Of course, seasons don’t dictate style – only new collections, he said.
When it comes to wedding gowns, what’s popular now, according to The Something Blue Shoppe, are clean and modern minimalist gowns, basque waists and square necklines, 3D floral appliqués and vintage lace, bold sleeves (think detachable or dramatic puff), slit skirts, soft A-lines and big ballgowns.

“It’s incredibly fulfilling to watch a bride fall in love with a gown that I handpicked for our store. Knowing I’ve played a part in bringing her dream wedding one step closer to reality is a feeling I’ll never get tired of.” – Owner TJ Holmes
