Help Eden Prairie live up to its name. Give yourself a garden that you’ll always regret leaving!
I know what you’re wondering: “What is this silliness I am reading in Eden Prairie Lifestyle? What good is garden talk now that fall approacheth?”
Au contraire, dear reader. As our friends at The Mustard Seed Landscaping & Garden Center would so graciously remind us, autumn is peak planting season. In some regards. Let’s find out more!
Premeditated Daffodils
“Want your own tulips and daffodils to let you know when it’s spring? Then September is the best time to plant them,” explained Kelly Lorenz, general manager of The Mustard Seed. “Those flowers’ bulbs have to spend winter underground before they can bloom in the spring.”
Cleaved Perennials
“Fall is a great time to divide any perennials that are taking over your garden. The cooler temperatures cause them to store more of their energy in their roots. Just take a shovel and chop off a clump of hosta. It won’t hurt the plant, and you can replant the clump.”
Pleased Trees
“Fall is an excellent season for tree planting, too. The ground is warm enough for roots to get comfortable and set themselves. There’s still plenty more time left for watering. Fall also has the nicest weather for all that hard work!”
