Ever since I was a little girl, fall has held a special place in my heart. Sure, my birthday falls in October (and I’m not mad about that), but there’s something deeper — something about this season that speaks to the soul.
There’s a shift in the air come September. It turns cool and crisp, whispering that change is coming. Leaves begin to trade their green for shades of gold, rust and burgundy. A warm mug of cider on a front porch swing becomes the perfect ending to a long day.
For me, that front porch is more than just an entrance; it’s a welcome mat to life’s sweetest moments. That’s where Southern Porch Design was born. My dear friend (and publisher of this beautiful magazine!), Missy Gurley, and I teamed up to create something we both love: seasonal porch styling that brings joy to homes and businesses.
We specialize in making porches feel like an experience. Think about it: cascading mums in vibrant autumn hues, plush throws over rocking chairs, textured pillows on a bench or swing and pumpkins — oh, the pumpkins! Tall ones, bumpy ones, pale orange, deep plum, creamy white… all stacked around a door featuring a handcrafted wreath that greets every guest with warmth.
We also love incorporating touches of Southern pride, like tasteful nods to your favorite football team. Whether you’re rolling with the Tide, backing the Tigers or repping your local school, we’ll find a classy way to show your spirit. And yes, we decorate for businesses, too - storefronts, front steps and welcome areas that wow customers before they even walk in.
