Family For Life

Learn the facts about insurance coverage with Heather Borlenghi

What inspired you to pursue a career in insurance?

My father was in the Air Force for years. We were constantly moving, and my mother needed to contribute to our income. After a move to Ramstein, Germany, she discovered her love for helping people with their health and life insurance. I watched and admired how hard my mom worked — in those days, she had to drive through village after village for appointments in the evenings. I never thought that I would be in the same profession she was in 30 years later, but her work ethic left an impression on me.

These days, I’m blessed with my own family, consisting of my husband, a 17-year-old recent high school graduate, 13-year-old twins, one overweight yellow labrador and two ridiculously cute guinea pigs named Pepe and Rudy. Having a houseful and a busy family helps me to relate to my clients and understand their needs. I now know this is where I want to be, and I am able to help my clients with the right coverage for their own families.

Explain the importance of life insurance coverage for a family.

Life insurance is one of the most important coverages you can have. It can protect your family from debt in the event the household income earner passes away. Life insurance can also cover expenses for the ever-growing costs of a burial. Even if a family has assets, the surviving members won't want to endure complex paperwork or a home sale during that tough time. Additionally, life insurance can ensure kids or other family members go to college, or it can be given to grandchildren as a gift.

What is your process for working with a new client?

New clients can choose to discuss their needs with me on the phone, on video, at an appointment at our storefront in Sandy Springs or even somewhere else if Sandy Springs is not convenient. I enjoy getting to know people and figuring out the best strategy for their situation and budget.

The first time I talk with you, I take time to gather the information I need to research different avenues for coverage. We then set up an appointment to go over the possibilities and answer all your questions.

What else should East Cobb Lifestyle readers know?

Do not wait to give me a call and discuss your options. I have heard horror stories of spouses being left with nothing to pay the mortgage and the bills after a loved one passes unexpectedly. I always like to remind clients that each of us is only a day away from being uninsurable for most products. While you are young and healthy, you can lock in better rates. We have a product for everyone, including medicare, private health, life, dental and vision.
