Boulder residents have always had a fondness for their land and community. A good portion of our surroundings is used for agriculture, which helps provide fresh food to the area, including our amazing restaurants. Did you know you can partake in all the marvelous options that local farms have to offer? Whether you are seeking out veggies, farm dining experiences, fresh-cut flowers, various meats or just fancy some coffee, there are so many extraordinary options available. Here are just a few that might suit you.
CSA with Cure
Choose from the many CSA membership options at Cure. From small to large shares of vegetables that feed up to five people for 20 weeks or limit it to simply eggs, flowers or fruit. Or if staying caffeinated is more your thing, coffee is an option, too.
With a CSA membership you are making a commitment to support the farm, which helps fund seed, water, equipment and labor in the early season when expenses are high. Become a part of the farm’s success and community by becoming a member today.
U-pick Flower Farm with Ya Ya
Pick your own flowers at Ya Ya Farm & Orchard. No reservations are required and picking can be done during farm stand hours (not yet announced) from August through November. They have beautiful dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers and many other long-lasting cut flower options. You can even pack a picnic and visit the farm stand, orchard and their farm animals, which include Percheron draft horses, mini donkeys, chickens, ducks and peacocks.
Kids Camps and Programs at Growing Gardens
Children between the ages of 5 and 11 can experience the wonders of an urban farm at Growing Gardens Summer Camp. Each week from early June through mid-August has a different theme, from field to fork cooking to survival skills. Kids will tend to the garden, explore through the lens of art and science and make tasty snacks from the bounty of their harvests.
Local Butchery Options at Western Daughters
Stop by Western Daughters Butcher Shoppe to purchase 100% grass-fed and pasture-raised meats. Whether you are wanting to cook healthy food or just looking for some fantastic flavored meats, they have you covered. They’re committed to a humane and pastured life for all the animals that are sourced for food. You can even sign up for the Meat Club, with each box loaded with fresh and seasonal cuts straight from the butcher.
Flower Subscription with Boulder Flower Farm
How about some fresh-cut flowers delivered to your door on a recurring basis from Boulder Flower Farm? Enjoy flowers from their fields and greenhouse all year long and liven up your home with the different varieties each season. New Flower Subscriptions will receive one free bottle of their Boulder Flower Farm 100% pure Lavender Hydrosol Spray.
Farm Dinner at Black Cat Farms
Make sure to visit Black Cat Farms for alfresco dining, beautiful gardens and absolutely gorgeous views. Upon arrival, you will be greeted with hors d’oeuvres and an aperitif at its historic farmstead. Dinner is served at private tables in the memorable blacksmith barn, garden cabanas or under the patio pergola. You will enjoy three courses, family-style, based on the day's abundant harvest. What a perfect way to cap off a gorgeous summer day in Colorado.
Volunteer at Kilt Farms
If you are drawn to participate in local agriculture and want to get your hands dirty, Kilt Farm might just be the place for you. It delights in being a place where people from all walks of life can participate in working with the land that leads to the creation of food. This is a season-long commitment, June through October, with one five-hour day of service on the farm each week. As a thank you, they send you home with a large bag of farm-fresh food.
A unique dining experience with Outstanding in the Field
Outstanding in the Field is a “roving restaurant without walls." It likes to say, "Rather than source ingredients for a restaurant, we bring our restaurant to the source."
