Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the U.S., and Gateway Celebrity Fight Night is back in the ring to deliver a knockout blow to this insidious disease.  In the US., more than 5,250 people are diagnosed with cancer each day. Gateway for Cancer Research invests in novel, patient-centered early phase clinical trials that arm men, women and children for their battles against this formidable foe.

Like all patients, all cancers matter. That’s why Gateway funds research for all types of cancer, including the rarest and sometimes deadliest forms of the disease.  Since its founding in 1991, Gateway for Cancer Research has harnessed the shared passion and collective drive of a global community of philanthropists, cancer researchers, and physicians to advance transformational, early phase clinical trials that are delivering treatment breakthroughs and HOPE to millions of men, women and children facing cancer today. These trials are the critical first step in evaluating new cancer treatments, often marking the first in-human study of a promising new drugs or therapies. Gateway has invested more than $95 million in nearly 200 cancer clinical trials at many of the world’s most renowned research institutions, delivering hope and healing to more than 10,000 patients . In the process, Gateway has never lost sight of the fact that its work must ALWAYS and ONLY be about the patient.

The Annual Gateway Celebrity Fight Night returns to Phoenix on Saturday, April 1, 2023. Continuing three decades of star-studded fundraising, it marks the event’s second year under the umbrella of Gateway for Cancer Research following a merger in 2021. The black-tie affair will feature a diverse and high-profile entertainment slate, cocktail reception, elegant dinner, and a live auction with one-of-a-kind luxury items.

Last year’s event—the first run under the new name and first in-person event since 2019—raised more than $5 million. Hosts Richard J Stephenson and his wife, Dr. Stacie J. Stephenson, Gateway's chairman and vice chair, respectively, have even higher hopes for this year.  Dr. Stacie J. Stephenson and Mr. Richard J Stephenson have dedicated their lives to creating a better world for future generations. Richard J Stephenson founded Gateway for Cancer Research in 1991 to exclusively fund Phase I and Phase II clinical cancer trials.  Together, the Stephensons share a commitment to creating a world in which a cancer diagnosis is no longer feared through patient-centered cancer research, treatment and care.

Gateway is the only organization that exclusively funds Phase I and Phase II cancer trials, with 100% of all event proceeds directly funding breakthrough clinical cancer research.

As you’d expect from an event with “celebrity” in the title, this marks a night when stars from around the world descend on Phoenix for a shared purpose: Creating a world in which a cancer diagnosis is no longer feared. Expect incredible entertainment from two-time Grammy Award-nominee and cancer survivor Taylor Dayne, three-time Grammy Award-winner, two-time cancer survivor and Music Legend Nile Rodgers & CHIC, and 16-time Grammy Award-winner and musical director David Foster, with more surprise guests yet to be announced!
