Fighting the Addiction Crisis at the Harris House

Empowering Those in Need to Take Control of Their Lives

Close to 23.5 million Americans suffer from addictions in this country. That’s almost one in every 10 Americans over the age of 12—a staggering and unacceptable number.

In St Louis, the Harris House Foundation is aware of this growing crisis and are making a difference. For 60 years, this unique non-for profit has offered a full continuum of care for people suffering from drug, alcohol, and mental concerns.

Director of Development, Alex Noel says, “Harris House is about saving lives.” He continues, “We serve over 1000 clients a year by providing detox for drugs and alcohol, a residential 28-day treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and up to 2 years of sober living.“

“Certified counselors use evidence-based treatments like cognitive and dialectical behavior therapy, providing client’s options they can use in real-time as positive coping skills,” added Noel.

The South St. Louis location provides 117 beds of transitional sober living to adult men and women, while the new 60 bed St. Charles residential treatment facility provides a first-class location and amenities that before now were only available out of state.

“Clients that remain engaged in our full continuum of care enjoy the opportunity for real sustainable long-term recovery,” Noel continues, “And that’s really what it’s all about…on a daily basis, we help save lives, and I cannot imagine a greater purpose in life.”
