After an immensely stressful 2020, we all could use some zen in our lives. According to health professionals, yoga may be the answer. Practicing yoga promotes inner awareness to establish a better body image, encourages mindful eating, offers cardiovascular benefits and enhances one’s overall fitness. YogaSix Flower Mound promotes this multifaceted concept by offering six individualized classes designed to achieve a wide array of fitness goals.
We asked Nikki Kerth, YogaSix Flower Mound general manager, to tell us more about the studio, which opened this past fall.
What is the philosophy behind YogaSix?
We believe that we’re all on a journey. We believe we can all grow, becoming better and better. We believe we all deserve to feel alive in the healthiest way. We believe in strong bodies and calm minds. We believe in each other, and our power together. And most of all, day in and day out, we believe in yoga.
Who can benefit from YogaSix workouts?
Everyone.
Why is it important for readers to incorporate yoga into their daily/weekly activities?
Yoga has so many amazing benefits. It depends on what the student is looking to achieve or what they would like to focus on. Relaxation, mindfulness, pain management, flexibility or strength.
What are the benefits of a consistent yoga practice?
It reduces blood pressure, boosts the immune system-which we all need during this time, improves brain function, increases energy and strengthens joints.
Does YogaSix include classes for beginner, intermediate and advanced students?
We have something for everyone. Our six core classes address the complete needs of your body in movement and intensity to help conquer plateaus and continually progress in your practice.
What classes does YogaSix offer and what do they entail?
We have 6 core classes that have been designed to support whatever a student might need on any given day. They differ in intention, intensity and heat.
Y6 Hot is the only set sequence. It’s done in a hot room. There are amazing benefits that can be achieved through repetition. From the perspective of a new student, you build confidence and build a solid foundation to grow from. And, on the other hand, for the more seasoned practitioners, you effortlessly move into a moving meditation and have the opportunity to work on advanced variations and track your progress.
Y6 Sculpt and Flow - this will kick your booty, and It’s so much fun … You begin with a nice juicy flow to get your body warmed up and the blood flowing. Then you move into the sculpt portion. This part incorporates compound weighted exercise, a cardio burst and an endurance builder that ties it all together. Then we put the weights down and pick the yoga back up to stretch it all out.
Y6 Restore is on the other end of the spectrum. This is the recovery class that supports and opens up all the major muscle groups of the body. This isn't a classical yin or restorative class, instead it focuses on an active stretch. You do just a little bit of work in the beginning to build up to those deep stretches that open up the major parts of the body (calves, quads, hamstrings, hips, hip flexors, chest, back, shoulders). This leaves you with that relaxed feeling at the end.
Y6 101: this is geared more toward beginners. What’s great about YogaSix is that we don’t create levels in our classes. All of our classes are multi-level and accessible to anyone. 101 is designed to support the true beginner with getting comfortable with the basics and familiar with the props and how to use them to help support and get you safely into poses.
Y6 Slow moves at a slower pace. Slower transitions in and out of the postures. Plus, more time to explore the postures and refine your alignment. This gives you that nice the slow burn.
Y6 Power: this is a cardio drive and a faster pace flow. The intensity will ramp up quickly, and you keep the intensity up the majority of the class. The transitions will be a little more challenging with option to incorporation arm balances and inversions if that is in your practice.
