Volunteers like Marina Wells play a vital role for the City of Moore’s Animal Welfare Department, and support the department’s mission to protect pets. Volunteers walk animals, clean enclosures, work at adoption events and provide crucial socialization experience for the animals in the city’s care.
“I find volunteering with animals to be very calming,” Marina explains. “There is something very peaceful about working with animals and giving affection. It’s cathartic, almost like a serotonin boost, and socializing the animals also increases their chance of adoption.”
Marina and her daughter both volunteer at the shelter, which allows Marina to share the importance of giving back to the community with her family.
In addition, the Moore Animal Welfare is always accepting donations of towels, blankets, cat litter, per food, dish soap, fabric softener and laundry detergent, pet toys, treats, cleaning supplies, and pet beds.
