Argyle Police Officers Make a Special Delivery

Ding-dong! Your groceries are here! A local resident looked at the display from her video doorbell and saw her delivery person wearing an Argyle police uniform. This isn’t a typical day in the life of a police officer, but for two members of Argyle Police Department, it was just another day on the job.

Officers Trey Humphries and Jeremy Rogers were out on patrol when they stopped a vehicle for speeding. They discovered the driver had active warrants and proceeded with an arrest.

In the process, the officers noticed that the driver was a delivery person, and he had a trunk full of perishable groceries. Officer Rogers explains, “Because the vehicle was going to be towed, I felt it would have been a waste of food to allow the food to rot in the trunk of the arrestee's vehicle at the tow yard. Knowing that the destination for the delivery was nearby and in Argyle, I thought it would be helpful to complete the delivery.”

And that’s what they did. Officer Rogers delivered the food and was greeted by the recipient with a playful response, “Now THAT is a special delivery!”

Chief Emmitt Jackson says, “You will not find grocery delivery in the police academy curriculum, nor will you find many of the things that officers do daily to embody our oath, but this is who our officers are, and I am proud to serve beside them.”

For Officer Rogers, serving his community means “always being willing to go over and above, even on non-law enforcement type calls, in order to let the community know we are there for them in all aspects of life, whether it be a life-threatening situation, or merely helping out with a simple daily chore or concern.”
