Benny Mobley, 57 year old body builder, life coach, and owner of Better Body Total Fitness, is living proof that you can get better with age. “You can’t stop from getting older, but you can slow it down by how you take care your body and what you put in it from the outside in,” says Mobley. “When I was younger, I ate everything fried growing up in the south that’s what you do. It wasn’t until I joined a gym in 1993 that I realized I was meant to be a professional fitness coach and trainer.”
For Benny, mindset is everything. “I think people give up as they age mainly because it’s their mindset, they try and do it alone. Yes, it is hard to stay in shape as you age, it’s hard to get started and stay motivated,” says Mobley. But with help from a professional, and choosing to do the work, anything is possible. Benny’s favorite quote, from Les Brown, reflects this: “If you do what’s easy in life, life will be hard later, spiritually, financially, and emotionally, but if you do what’s hard in life, life will be easy later spiritually, financially and emotionally.”
And that simple philosophy is what continues to drive Benny personally. “The small simple changes are what got me to where I am today. I get routine physical checkups, eat proper nutrient, get eight hours of sleep, I laugh a lot which is good for the soul. Twenty years from now, I will still be the best version of myself by sticking to this simple formula.”
Through his business, Better Body Total Fitness, he teaches people these four pillars that will help build a lasting foundation to better health:
1. Lifestyle: Minor changes over time will amaze you. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about progress.
2. Commitment: Invest in yourself for 45 minutes to an hour a week to build a healthier, stronger you.
3. Discipline: Once you make the commitment to the lifestyle change having the discipline to stick to it will grow easier and easier each week. You will be rebuilt with a new image, one which motivates you to push that much further.
4. Consistency: To succeed, it’s important to know the milestone you want to reach and stick to it.
These principles apply to his wide variety of clients that range from young and old (youngest is 16, oldest is 91) and all nationalities. Ultimately, Benny’s passion is to help others, by consistently inspiring, encouraging, and motivating those around him. “Don’t allow the labels of life or someone else’s opinion of you become your reality, always be the best version of yourself.”
