Whether young or old, a fitness pro, just getting started in wellness or somewhere in between, Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation offerings have something enjoyable, suitable and helpful for everyone at various facilities.
The community locations, Patterson Park Community Center, Sports*Com and McFadden Community Center, have been beloved facilities for years. But one notation that people may not realize is the immense number of parks and recreation-hosted classes and programs that are offered throughout the week. The staff works hard to stay up-to-date on fitness trends and what's warranted for the local, specific population of guests. Part of their process is reaching out and asking for suggestions to verify what activity opportunities people believe they need.
Amy Myers, a health and wellness fitness coordinator at Patterson Park Community Center, shares, “Since I was young, I’ve always been into health and fitness. As a fitness professional and as a mom, I've continued to enjoy exercising and finding ways of staying active. I love helping people find what activities, classes or movement they like and what works for them, so that they can improve their overall health and ultimately increase their longevity.”
For beginners, there are classes such as Alignment & Mobility, Retro Fit and Step & Tone. Staffers also offer Sit & Get Fit and Forever Fit to help others begin moving again or even for the first time. Many of these classes include options, such as using weights to add intensity or not, based on one's personal development and considerations.
Classes such as Zumba, Yoga, Strong, Jazzercise and Metabolic Burn are great for intermediate and advanced levels because they can be adjusted to individual needs. There also are seven various water aerobics courses, including the very popular, energy-oriented Ai-Chi.
Whatever one's fitness style may be, it's a great time to try something new and find that perfect match. And, don’t forget: there's always pickleball as an option.
