A special treat will soon be served up, thanks to the talents of dozens of local children. The 2023 Bownes Memorial For Kids' Sake Variety Show will take place Sunday, Feb. 5, at 4 p.m. at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre on the campus of Wallace State Community College in Hanceville.
The exciting event, organized by the Cullman Regional Foundation, will see students from the Cullman community showcasing their talents to benefit nursery and pediatric services at Cullman Regional.
For Kids’ Sake celebrates the variety of talent among the youth in the Cullman area and will feature musical and theatrical performances from more than 80 students.
For Kids' Sake, which began in 1993, honors the memory of one of Cullman's most beloved pediatricians, Dr. Eugene Bownes.
Funds raised allow the Cullman Regional Foundation to purchase equipment for infants and pediatric patients at Cullman Regional. Proceeds from the event have purchased a variety of patient care items over the years.
"Engaging the students in the show allows them to be exposed to a philanthropic event at a young age. Through their participation they will give back to help advance health care services. The participants make donations at the time of their auditions, sell tickets and sell sponsorships for the show," said a statement from the Foundation.
“We are excited to once again host the variety show giving students the opportunity to showcase their talents,” said Cullman Regional Foundation Executive Director Maria Stanford. “We encourage the community to take part and show your support for this cause benefiting the nursery and pediatric care at Cullman Regional.”
The 2023 Bownes Memorial For Kids’ Sake Variety Show will showcase solo and ensemble dance, vocal and instrumental performances. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 at the Foundation office or on the day of the program for $15 at the door.
